Once upon a time in the Republic of Uncommon Sense, two adults closed a door \u2014 and the entire nation climbed the roof to inspect the ceiling fan.<\/p>\n

Let us begin calmly.<\/p>\n

The act itself began with Creation.<\/p>\n

It predates colonial borders.<\/p>\n

It survived coups and constitutions.<\/p>\n

It endured black-and-white television and dial-up internet.<\/p>\n

It is not new.<\/p>\n

What is new\u2026 is the Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n

Within hours, Ghana transformed into a moral emergency ward.<\/p>\n

Cultural custodians were revived from retirement.<\/p>\n

WhatsApp lawyers were sworn in without ceremony.<\/p>\n

Gender analysts warmed up their keyboards.<\/p>\n

Economists blamed the exchange rate.<\/p>\n

And almost everybody \u2014 almost everybody \u2014 had \u201cseen the evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Strictly for educational purposes.<\/p>\n

The Court of Facebook<\/p>\n

By sunrise, the digital courtroom had assembled.<\/p>\n

Honourable Justice Screenshot presiding.<\/p>\n

Inspector Forward-Forward prosecuting.<\/p>\n

Professor National Shame delivering the keynote lecture on \u201cThe Collapse of Civilization.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sentences were issued instantly.<\/p>\n

Reputations were buried digitally.<\/p>\n

Appeals were not entertained.<\/p>\n

And yet \u2014 the video kept circulating.<\/p>\n

Because here lies the contradiction:<\/p>\n

If it is shameful, why are we searching?<\/p>\n

If it is immoral, why is it trending?<\/p>\n

If sharing is illegal, why is it forwarded \u201cmany times\u201d?<\/p>\n

There is an old proverb rendered into English:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe one who claims he has never tasted the soup is often licking the ladle behind the kitchen.\u201d<\/p>\n

In this Republic, outrage is public. Curiosity is private.<\/p>\n

We condemn loudly.<\/p>\n

We download quietly.<\/p>\n

The Selective Outrage Department<\/p>\n

Observe carefully.<\/p>\n

The foreign gentleman has slowly become a background character.<\/p>\n

The women, however, have become headline, subheading, and footnotes.<\/p>\n

In the Republic of Uncommon Sense, when a man climbs a tree, he is called adventurous. When a woman climbs the same tree, she is declared missing.<\/p>\n

If roles were reversed, would the outrage be identical?<\/p>\n

Would the volume be the same?<\/p>\n

Or would we suddenly discover the language of \u201cfreedom\u201d and \u201cchoice\u201d?<\/p>\n

We are consistent \u2014 consistently inconsistent.<\/p>\n

Hard Times and Easy Judgments<\/p>\n

Now let us remove the humour for one honest minute.<\/p>\n

Hard times make soft decisions.<\/p>\n

When unemployment knocks loudly, dignity negotiates quietly.<\/p>\n

When opportunity is scarce, risk becomes affordable.<\/p>\n

When hope delays, desperation improvises.<\/p>\n

Some see moral decline.<\/p>\n

Others see economic survival.<\/p>\n

Some see disgrace.<\/p>\n

Others see systemic failure.<\/p>\n

It is easier to condemn individuals than to confront conditions.<\/p>\n

It is easier to forward a video than to forward opportunity.<\/p>\n

The Fire and the Charcoal<\/p>\n

There is another proverb worth remembering:<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you truly hate the fire, why are you carrying the charcoal?\u201d<\/p>\n

We say we are disgusted \u2014 yet we keep it trending.<\/p>\n

We say we are protecting culture \u2014 yet we amplify what we claim to reject.<\/p>\n

In the old village square, gossip faded at sunset.<\/p>\n

In the digital village, gossip does not fade.<\/p>\n

It is archived.<\/p>\n

Screen-recorded.<\/p>\n

Reposted.<\/p>\n

Preserved.<\/p>\n

One moment can now become permanent punishment.<\/p>\n

And here is the uncomfortable truth:<\/p>\n

You can disagree with someone\u2019s choices \u2014<\/p>\n

and still respect their right to privacy.<\/p>\n

Consent to intimacy is not consent to global distribution.<\/p>\n

The law understands this.<\/p>\n

Social media is still debating it.<\/p>\n

The Mirror Moment<\/p>\n

Perhaps this story is not about the individuals at all.<\/p>\n

Perhaps it is about us.<\/p>\n

What kind of society do we become when curiosity outruns compassion?<\/p>\n

What kind of morality do we defend when we spread what we claim to condemn?<\/p>\n

In the Republic of Uncommon Sense, we do not only share videos.<\/p>\n

We also share judgment \u2014 wholesale, retail, and on installment plan.<\/p>\n

The next time the village bell rings on your phone, pause.<\/p>\n

Before you press forward, ask yourself:<\/p>\n

Are you protecting dignity?<\/p>\n

Or entertaining curiosity?<\/p>\n

Are you defending values?<\/p>\n

Or feeding the algorithm?<\/p>\n

Now I hand the microphone to you, citizens of the Republic:<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s engage \u2014 responsibly.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Is participation the issue \u2014 or distribution?<\/p>\n

\u2022 Is this moral decline \u2014 or economic desperation?<\/p>\n

\u2022 Does outrage solve anything \u2014 or just amplify harm?<\/p>\n

\u2022 And would your reaction change if it were someone you personally know?<\/p>\n

Debate boldly.<\/p>\n

Forward wisely.<\/p>\n
