The Ghana School of Law is set to undergo a major transformation with the passage of the new Legal Education Bill, according to former Director Kwaku Ansa-Asare.<\/p>\n

Speaking on JoyNews\u2019 The Law<\/strong> on Sunday, Mr. Ansa-Asare described the reforms as long overdue but crucial for modernising legal education in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese reforms should have been done many, many years ago. It wasn\u2019t for lack of vision, but simply the political will,\u201d he said, commending Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine for driving the initiative.<\/p>\n

The bill formally establishes the Ghana School of Law for the first time, giving legal recognition to an institution that has operated since 1959 without legislation. <\/p>\n

Mr. Ansa-Asare explained that while the late President Kwame Nkrumah envisioned a law school, it never received formal legal backing\u2014until now.<\/p>\n

In addition, the bill creates a Council for Legal Education, separating the regulation of professional lawyers from the administration of legal training. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not about replacing the General Legal Council, but about giving the law school a dedicated mandate to train aspiring lawyers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The former director emphasised that the reforms will raise the law school\u2019s profile, streamline training, and modernise Ghana\u2019s legal education system.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a historic moment. For the first time, we will have a law school properly established by law, with clear structures and focused objectives,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Legal Education Bill is now awaiting parliamentary approval and is expected to reshape the future of legal training in Ghana.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
