Organisation (INTERPOL)\u00a0has permanently deleted the Red Notice alert it issued against former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta at the request of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), lawyers for the embattled former government official have revealed.<\/p>\n<p>In a release issued today, Friday, 13th February 2026, Ofori-Atta\u2019s lead counsel, Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo of the law firm Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline &#038; Partners, stated that the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL\u2019s Files (CCF) has communicated the removal to Mr Ofori-Atta.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyers said the international police body\u2019s oversight commission determined that the request for Ofori-Atta\u2019s arrest was of a \u201cpredominantly political character\u201d and failed to comply with the organisation\u2019s strict neutrality rules.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling, issued during the CCF\u2019s 135th Session held on 4th February 2026, represents a significant blow to the state\u2019s efforts to extradite the former minister, who has been at the centre of a multi-billion Ghana cedi investigation into the management of Ghana\u2019s economy and controversial deals.<\/p>\n<p>The statement disclosed that the CCF\u2019s decision was based on a \u201cthorough examination\u201d of the data registered by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) of Ghana. <\/p>\n<p>Under Article 3 of INTERPOL\u2019s Constitution, the organisation is strictly forbidden from undertaking any intervention or activities of a political, military, religious, or racial character.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission found that the challenged data registered by Ghana were \u201cnot compliant with INTERPOL\u2019s rules.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Permanent Deletion:<\/strong> The Red Notice shall be \u201cdeleted from INTERPOL\u2019s files permanently.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Political Persecution:<\/strong> The CCF explicitly noted that the notice \u201cappears of a predominantly political character,\u201d essentially endorsing the defence\u2019s claim of state-sponsored harassment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cAfter a thorough examination of the elements before it, the commission found that the challenged data registered by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) of Ghana were not compliant with INTERPOL\u2019s rules and decided that they should be deleted from the INTERPOL information system,\u201d the statement from Mr Ofori-Atta\u2019s lawyers quoted the CCF.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The pursuit of Ken Ofori-Atta has been a cornerstone of the government\u2019s anti-corruption drive. <\/p>\n<p>The state initiated investigations into several high-profile financial transactions under Ofori-Atta\u2019s tenure, which saw Ghana\u2019s debt balloon to over GH\u00a2600 billion and led to a historic $3 billion IMF bailout.<\/p>\n<p>In the public statement today, Mr Ofori-Atta\u2019s lead counsel hailed the decision as a vindication of his client\u2019s position. <\/p>\n<p>The legal team has long argued that the charges were a \u201cpolitical vendetta\u201d designed to scapegoat the former minister for broader global economic headwinds.<\/p>\n<p>The permanent deletion of the Red Notice effectively grants Ken Ofori-Atta unrestricted international travel and significantly complicates any further attempts by the Attorney-General to secure his physical presence in Ghana via international cooperation.<\/p>\n<div
