Police officers on routine patrol operations in the\u00a0Wa\u00a0West District\u00a0have arrested three suspects for openly holding firearms and ammunition without authority.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Francis\u00a0Yiribaare, the Upper West Regional Police Commander,\u00a0in a brief,\u00a0said the arrests were made on\u00a0Monday, February 3, 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u00a0gave their names as Yahaya Samad,\u00a027, Adams Alhassan, 37 and\u00a0Yiritang\u00a0Boosi, 35.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During the patrol, the police team sighted a group of about five men at Goziri, a community near Vieri, each armed with a single-barreled gun and a cutlass, thereby posing a potential threat to public safety, the brief said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cUpon noticing the approaching police patrol vehicle, the suspects attempted to flee the scene. However, through swift and professional action, the patrol team pursued and successfully arrested three of the suspects,\u00a0it said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A search conducted on them at the scene led to the retrieval of three single-barrel guns, three cutlasses and 23 cartridges.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The suspects were conveyed to the police station, where they confessed to having no licences for the guns and ammunition.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

They\u00a0had since been remanded by the\u00a0Wa\u00a0Magistrate Court,\u00a0presided over by Mr Simon Kofi Bediako,\u00a0to reappear on February 18, 2026, whilst efforts were also intensified to apprehend the remaining suspects who\u00a0escaped\u00a0to face the law.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Upper West Regional Police Command commends the vigilance and\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

professionalism of the patrol team and wishes to caution the public, particularly individuals with firearms without a licence, to immediately regularise them or face decisive action from the Police.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u00a0reiterated the Command\u2019s commitment to sustaining\u00a0the\u00a0peace and security for communities across the region and called for\u00a0public support and collaboration.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
