The JUSTMOH Construction Limited, the contractor working on the 23-kilometre Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta dual carriageway project, has expressed concern about some incidents of attacks on its workers by residents in some communities along the road.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Safety Manager for the company, Isaac Kwakye Asare, said the recurring incidents put the safety of the workers at risk and affected the progress of work.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking to journalists, he said these attacks had happened at\u00a0Beahu\u00a0and\u00a0Bokoro\u00a0communities, where some individuals confronted their workers during construction hours, injuring some of them in the process.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cWe have been encountering pockets of attacks along the project\u2019s corridor; they are numerous, but we try our best to contain our tempers.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

On what caused these attacks,\u00a0Mr\u00a0Asare said: \u201cYou will see us working on one lane, and then open the other lane to public traffic, and suddenly you will see the motorists and others\u00a0maneuvering\u00a0into where we are working, and when you advise them against their\u00a0behaviour, then they pounce on you.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said, despite engaging in community\u00a0sensitisation\u00a0activities to ensure the people cooperated with them while work progressed on the project, some of them continued to disrupt the workers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOur workers sometimes work under fear and panic within some of these communities, and this clearly affects the progress of work on the project,\u201d he added.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr\u00a0Asare said the incidents had been reported to the police; however, no arrests had been made.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He, therefore, cautioned those involved in the attacks to desist from the acts, so they could work under\u00a0a conducive\u00a0environment to help complete the project ahead of schedule.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile,\u00a0Project Manager for JUSTMOH Construction Ltd, Johan Prinsloo, said the project was progressing steadily, and that they had completed all major earthworks, concrete work, culverts, and\u00a0bridges,\u00a0among others.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u00a0stated\u00a0that they would\u00a0expedite\u00a0work to finish the entire\u00a0dualisation\u00a0project ahead of schedule by\u00a0the middle\u00a0of the year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
