Voting has ended in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ayawaso East parliamentary primary, with sorting and counting of ballots currently underway at the Nima Cluster of Schools.<\/p>\n

The election, held to select the party\u2019s candidate for the March 3, 2026, by-election, was expected to have more than 1,100 delegates to cast their votes.<\/p>\n

Polling began at 9:00 am and officially closed at 4:00 pm, after which electoral officials immediately commenced the counting process. The results are expected to be declared later today.<\/p>\n

Five candidates are contesting for the nod to represent the party in the upcoming by-election, which was necessitated by the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Naser Toure.<\/p>\n

The aspirants are: Mohammed Ramne (Constituency Chairman), Hajia Amina Adam (widow of the late MP), Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed (High Commissioner to Nigeria), Dr Yakubu Azindow (Political Scientist), and Najib Mohammed Sani<\/p>\n

A strong police presence has been deployed at the venue to maintain law and order as delegates and supporters remain on site, closely monitoring the sorting and counting process.<\/p>\n

The primary is considered critical due to the NDC\u2019s longstanding dominance in Ayawaso East, making the winner a strong favourite heading into the by-election.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, all five contenders have expressed optimism, with their supporters anticipating victory as the party awaits the outcome.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
