That soft, innocent-looking material that has never paid school fees but still manages to cause family meetings.<\/p>\n

So there we were, minding our African business\u2014trying to build roads that don\u2019t dissolve after the first rain\u2014when suddenly a photo drops online: Mahama in fugu in Zambia.<\/p>\n

And instantly, the internet stood up.<\/p>\n

Not for inflation.<\/p>\n

Not for youth unemployment.<\/p>\n

Not for \u201cthe cedi is doing press-ups again.\u201d<\/p>\n

No.<\/p>\n

For a smock.<\/p>\n

At that moment, the fugu was no longer clothing. It was foreign policy.<\/p>\n

People said, \u201cThe President wore a fugu.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wrong.<\/p>\n

The truth is: the fugu wore the President.<\/p>\n

Because that outfit didn\u2019t just enter the room\u2026 it entered history.<\/p>\n

Now Zambia was just peacefully existing\u2014copper, governance, vibes\u2014when Ghanaian cotton crossed the border with confidence and a relaxed neckline.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s when the questions began.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs that our cloth?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIs that your cloth?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy does it look better on him than on us?\u201d<\/p>\n

And the deadliest question of all:<\/p>\n

Then X\u2014formerly Twitter, currently The United Nations of Bad Takes\u2014opened an emergency session.<\/p>\n

Ghanaians arrived with:<\/p>\n

pride<\/p>\n

history<\/p>\n

memes<\/p>\n

and one uncle who claims his grandfather invented weaving behind a cocoa shed<\/p>\n

Zambians arrived with:<\/p>\n

screenshots<\/p>\n

calm energy<\/p>\n

and the kind of composure that says, \u201cWe\u2019re not pressed\u2026 but we\u2019re watching.\u201d<\/p>\n

And just like that, the visit became a textile tribunal.<\/p>\n

Suddenly everyone became a professor.<\/p>\n

Not Economics. Not Political Science.<\/p>\n

Cotton Science.<\/p>\n

We got \u201ctextile historians\u201d emerging from WhatsApp group chats.<\/p>\n

We got anthropologists who have never been to a museum but can identify a weave from 14 pixels.<\/p>\n

Somebody posted a black-and-white photo from 1932 and wrote:<\/p>\n

\u201cProof.\u201d<\/p>\n

Proof of what?<\/p>\n

Proof that the internet is a confident place.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, governments remained diplomatic. Smiles. Handshakes. Good manners.<\/p>\n

Citizens?<\/p>\n

Citizens chose chaos\u2014peaceful chaos, but chaos.<\/p>\n

Because in the Republic of Uncommon Sense, the order of urgency is:<\/p>\n

Fabric<\/p>\n

Football<\/p>\n

Food<\/p>\n

Everything else<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s be honest: this is the most peaceful conflict Africa has had in a while.<\/p>\n

No sanctions\u2014just hashtags.<\/p>\n

No missiles\u2014just memes.<\/p>\n

No trade war\u2014just tailoring.<\/p>\n

And honestly, I respect it.<\/p>\n

Because borders were drawn by colonizers.<\/p>\n

But threads were woven by ancestors.<\/p>\n

So if you see cotton travelling across Africa, don\u2019t ask for passport.<\/p>\n

Ask for the tailor.<\/p>\n

Because in the end, politics divides\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026but a good smock?<\/p>\n
