The Volta Parliamentary Caucus has advised contractors on the Big Push Project in its jurisdiction to work to meet timelines or have their contracts abrogated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Chairman of the Caucus and Member of Parliament for Ho West and Chairman of the Caucus, Emmanuel Bedzrah, said the government would not countenance delays to retard its agenda of developing the country\u2019s road network.<\/p>\n

He made this known when speaking to the media during a tour by the caucus on some identified projects in the Volta Region.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Caucus kicked off the tour with an inspection at the University of Health and Allied Sciences School of Public Health campus under which is construction in Fodome in the Hohoe Municipality.<\/p>\n

The team assured a timely completion of the project, financed by the GETfund, and promised the addition of hostel facilities for students and teachers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It proceeded to inspect the progress of work Have-Hohoe stretch of the Eastern Corridor Roads, an affordable housing project at Kpeve in the South Dayi District, financed by the government and the Asikuma-Denu Road under the government\u2019s flagship Big Push Project.<\/p>\n

Mr. Bedzrah, expressed concerns over the slow progresses on some sections of the roads, which he feels may disrupt the government\u2019s development timelines. <\/p>\n

He identified Green House and China Railway as the worse performing road contractors on the stretch gauging from the level of work done since the contract was awarded to them, and sod cut for in September 2025. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere is one on the Estern Corridor Road, that is from have to Hohoe, that is Green House, they are not performing at all, you saw the equipment they are using there. And they are not even watering the road for motorists to use. We got there before thet started working, we cannot continue like that. And when you come to China Railway, from Ho Airport [junction] to Kpetoe, they are not on site and the others are working.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThese two we will report them to the Minister, if they have to give it someone else to do, we don\u2019t want a delay. We gave them 24 months and within these 24 months we want to see all projects under the Big Push in the Volta Region completed\u201d, he lamented.<\/p>\n

He lauded the showmanship of local contractors working on the various stretches and indicated that the foreign contractors may be re-allocated on to feeder roads, while local contractors take on the current stretches they are working on.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you are a foreign company and you can\u2019t perform, any local company will do the work. And you saw how the local companies are doing very well. In the past we were told that local contractors cannot do asphalt roads, but look at this. So, if the Chinese cannot perform, we relocate them to some feeder roads to go and work there\u201d, he warned.<\/p>\n

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, lauded the showmanship of the local conttractors working on the Big Push Project and counselled those behind schedule to improve on their work delivery to catch up with their compatriots. <\/p>\n

He asserted that the Volta Region has indeed become a construction zone as indicated by President Mahama, promising accelerated infrastructure development in his jurisdiction to enhance livelihoods. <\/p>\n

The Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Edem Agbana, explained that property owner who have their house in demarcated zones for the road would be duly compensated, adding that \u201can interim committee has been constituted\u201d to that effect.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
