The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has taken an important step towards strengthening Ghana\u2019s healthcare system by advancing plans to train specialist health professionals as part of its core mandate.<\/p>\n

The initiative aligns with one of the Fund\u2019s four key pillars, which focuses on building human capacity to support the delivery of quality specialised healthcare across the country.<\/p>\n

Ahead of its official rollout scheduled for April, the Fund engaged the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives to begin discussions on a structured programme to train up to 100 specialist nurses over the next four years.<\/p>\n

The proposed training will cover critical areas such as oncology, cardiology, nephrology, neurology, endocrinology, and critical care, all of which are central to the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).<\/p>\n

The initiative forms part of a broader national strategy to tackle the rising burden of NCDs, in line with the vision championed by President John Dramani Mahama.<\/p>\n

By investing in specialist training, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund aims to ensure that the expansion of financing for NCD care is matched with a skilled and adequately prepared health workforce.<\/p>\n

The engagement was warmly received by the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives.<\/p>\n

The Rector, Dr. Mrs. Gloria Achempim-Ansong, speaking on behalf of the College\u2019s administration, pledged the institution\u2019s full support for the initiative and expressed readiness to collaborate closely with the Fund to make the training programme a success.<\/p>\n

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund said it looks forward to an impactful partnership that will enhance specialist healthcare delivery nationwide.<\/p>\n

While financing specialised NCD care for Ghanaians remains a priority, the Fund reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the professionals delivering this care are well trained, well supported, and equipped to perform at the highest standards.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
