The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel\u00a0Armah\u00a0Kofi\u00a0Buah, says the Blue Water Guard initiative introduced by the government was yielding positive results.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said the steadfastness of the guards was significantly undermining the operational framework of illegal miners, especially in the water and river bodies in communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In an address read on his behalf at the inauguration of 21 Blue Water Guards for the\u00a0Asokore-Mampong\u00a0Municipality,\u00a0Mr\u00a0Buah\u00a0said he was\u00a0very proud\u00a0of the progress made so far by the guards in protecting river and water bodies.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u00a0cautioned the guards to desist from any act that could undermine the\u00a0objectives\u00a0of the initiative and urged them\u00a0to adhere strictly to the principles governing their operations wherever they might\u00a0be deployed.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Blue Water Guards is a government initiative\u00a0designed to equip over 2,000 Ghanaian youths with the requisite skills and knowledge to protect the nation\u2019s rivers and other water bodies adversely affected by\u00a0galamsey\u00a0activities.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

Additionally, it aims to\u00a0establish\u00a0a sustainable\u00a0community-driven surveillance system dedicated to the continuous protection and restoration of water bodies\u00a0impacted\u00a0by illegal mining.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr.\u00a0Buah\u00a0pointed out that\u00a0illegal mining\u00a0activities\u00a0contaminate\u00a0water bodies through the processing of soil and crushed stones in proximity to waterways,\u00a0therefore\u00a0necessitating\u00a0focused intervention.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u00a0said\u00a0one of the most alarming ramifications\u00a0was\u00a0the pervasive pollution of rivers and streams, jeopardizing both human health and the livelihoods reliant on pristine water sources. \u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said\u00a0with the training they had\u00a0undergone\u00a0in surveillance, survival swimming, boat handling, and basic combat\u00a0techniques,\u00a0he\u00a0was\u00a0confident in their capacity to fulfill their mandate effectively.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to him, the Blue Water Guards\u00a0were\u00a0anticipated\u00a0to operate in close collaboration with the Ghana Navy and\u00a0the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations (NAIMOS), to achieve the desired goals.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Asokore-mampong\u00a0Municipal Chief Executive (MCE),\u00a0Ben Abdullah\u00a0Alhassan,\u00a0urged the\u00a0guards to execute their responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and unwavering commitment.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u00a0said\u00a0such an approach would\u00a0facilitate\u00a0the successful realization of the President\u2019s vision of\u00a0attaining\u00a0zero pollution in\u00a0water bodies.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dignitaries present at the inauguration included Mr. Steven\u00a0Agbo\u00a0of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources,\u00a0Mr.\u00a0Dela\u00a0Edem, Head of Corporate Communications at\u00a0the ministry, Mr.\u00a0Kobby\u00a0Boamah, Executive Assistant (Support Services),\u00a0among others.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
