Brazil\u2019s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has secured a fourth non-consecutive term after defeating right-wing Senator Flavio Bolsonaro in the run-off election.<\/p>\n

Bolsonaro called for the vote to be annulled over an \u2018unacceptable\u2019 two-hour extension of voting time granted by the Brazilian Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

The election results on Sunday have drawn reactions across the world, with leftist global figures celebrating Lula\u2019s victory.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how the world reacted:<\/p>\n

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum<\/h3>\n

Sheinbaum congratulated Lula in a post on X. \u201cLong live democracy, the people of Brazil won,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney<\/h3>\n

In his congratulatory post, Carney credited Lula with advancing relations between Canada and Brazil.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us seize this opportunity to strengthen them further, together \u2013 to create new promising commercial prospects, protect the environment, and ensure greater prosperity for both our populations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

US officials and politicians<\/h3>\n

The US president\u2019s son, Donald Trump Jr, criticised the result, citing the Brazilian Supreme Court\u2019s two-hour voting time extension.<\/p>\n

He said if a \u201cconservative government in Brazil did this, everyone in the mainstream press in America would lose their minds, but I guess they\u2019re just choosing to be silent because it\u2019s all for the cause.\u201d<\/p>\n

Progressive Senator Bernie Sanders congratulated Lula\u2019s \u201cextraordinary re-election victory\u201d, saying the Brazilian president has \u201cstood up\u201d for workers and democracy and will continue to do so in his next four-year term.<\/p>\n

Congressman Ro Khanna, in a post on X, said \u201cPeople all across the world are fighting back against extremism. With Lula in Brazil, they just won. Authoritarian leaders always attack democracy because they stand no chance against the will of their people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Khanna added that President Donald Trump \u201cmust respect the results and not undermine Brazil\u2019s elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

California Governor Gavin Newsom\u2019s Press Office released a statement saying he is \u201cproud to stand with Brazil and partners around the world who share our commitment to defending democracy, protecting our environment, strengthening workers\u2019 rights, and building an economy that works for working families.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cuban President Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel<\/h3>\n

D\u00edaz-Canel said Lula\u2019s \u201chistoric\u201d win \u201censures the continuity of the path of peace, sovereignty, and social justice embarked upon by the Brazilian people under your leader\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrazil can count on Cuba in the construction of the unity and integration of our Great Homeland, Latin American and Caribbean\u201d, D\u00edaz-Canel wrote in a post on X.<\/p>\n

Chilean President Jose Antonio Kast<\/h3>\n

Kast said he spoke on the phone with Lula to congratulate him on his victory in a post on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cChile and Brazil have a lot of shared future ahead, and we will continue working on an agenda that strengthens relations between our countries in economic integration and the fight against organised crime in the region\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz<\/h3>\n

\u201cBolivia and Brazil are neighbouring and sister countries, united by a shared history and common challenges\u201d, Rodrigo said in a post on X.<\/p>\n

The two countries will continue to work together to strengthen ties and \u201cgenerate more opportunities for our nations\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino<\/h3>\n

\u201cI congratulate the \u200c\u200c\u200c\u200cBrazilian \u200c\u200c\u200c\u200cpeople for this democratic day and especially President Lula for the victory!\u201d Mulino wrote on X. \u201cWe will continue working together for our countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
