An aide to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia says the Vice President\u2019s strength lies in a base that is \u201cstatic and stable,\u201d a factor he says has widened the gap between him and his closest rivals.<\/p>\n

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, speaking on Channel One TV on Sunday, said the entry of Dr Bryan Acheampong into the race did not surprise the Bawumia camp and did not erode his support.<\/p>\n

He explained that voting behaviour within the NPP is shaped by fixed ideological groupings rather than personalities.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnybody who has followed the NPP and pays close attention to the NPP, you realise that the NPP has an existing system within the party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to him, party members often move in blocs at the constituency and polling station levels.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou would always find some seven people who always think alike and move together and act together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Aboagye said this internal structure meant Dr Acheampong\u2019s entry was always likely to hurt Kennedy Agyapong more than Dr Bawumia.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe always knew that Bryan Acheampong\u2019s entering into the race was surely going to hurt Kennedy Agyapong more than Dr Bawumia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He described Dr Bawumia\u2019s supporters as largely immovable.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Bawumia supporters are more static. They are a bit more stable than the other candidates,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He argued that Kennedy Agyapong\u2019s support base was less fixed, especially after Alan Kyerematen exited the party in 2023. \u201cThey all consolidated around him,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

With Dr Acheampong offering an alternative, that bloc split. \u201cYou could see them splitting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Aboagye said the effect was clear in the results. \u201cThat split was very obvious from the polls,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He noted that Dr Bawumia\u2019s margin over the runner-up has now widened.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe difference between him and the second-place person has moved to 33 per cent if you compare to 2023,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Dr Bawumia won the NPP flagbearer race with 56.48 per cent of the vote, securing the party\u2019s ticket for the 2028 elections. Former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong placed second with 23.76 per cent.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
