President John\u00a0Dramani\u00a0Mahama\u00a0has announced that plans are far advanced for the establishment of a Women\u2019s Bank.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He explained that Vice President Professor Jane\u00a0Naana\u00a0Opoku-Agyemang, who has been leading the initiative, had informed him that\u00a0significant progress\u00a0had been made and that a presentation on the structure and\u00a0objectives\u00a0of the bank would soon be\u00a0submitted\u00a0to the cabinet for consideration.\u00a0<\/p>\n

President\u00a0Mahama\u00a0made this known when he officially launched the\u00a0Sheapark\u00a0Resource Hub Project at the\u00a0Wa\u00a0Naa\u2019s\u00a0Palace in\u00a0Wa, the Upper West Regional capital.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said the Women\u2019s Bank would support women entrepreneurs, especially in the northern sector, where the\u00a0shea\u00a0industry\u00a0remained\u00a0a major source of livelihood for many women.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the Upper West Region, the Women\u2019s Bank is going to target mothers who are in the\u00a0shea\u00a0nut industry,\u201d he\u00a0stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The initiative is being championed by Speaker Alban\u00a0Sumana\u00a0Kingsford\u00a0Bagbin\u00a0and Professor Kwame\u00a0Addo as part of\u00a0the government\u2019s\u00a0efforts to strengthen the\u00a0shea\u00a0industry through value addition.\u00a0<\/p>\n

President\u00a0Mahama\u00a0noted that during\u00a0shea nut picking seasons, women would be provided with small credits to enable them to go into the bush to collect nuts.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said the facility would allow cooperatives to hire tricycles to transport the women deeper into the bush and return with the\u00a0shea\u00a0nuts, relieving them of the burden of carrying heavy loads on their heads.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u00a0emphasised\u00a0that women were not merely beneficiaries but the foundation of the initiative, given their\u00a0central role\u00a0in the\u00a0shea\u00a0industry over the years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The president said the government had already supplied 3,000 pairs of Wellington boots and 3,200 gloves to women in the\u00a0shea\u00a0industry in the Upper West Region.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

These, he explained, would help protect them from snake and scorpion bites, a major hazard in\u00a0shea nut picking.\u00a0<\/p>\n

President\u00a0Mahama\u00a0said the\u00a0Sheapark\u00a0Hub was envisioned as a world-class phased agro-industrial ecosystem built on sustainability,\u00a0innovation,\u00a0and inclusion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It would host modern\u00a0shea\u00a0processing facilities for cosmetic, food,\u00a0nutraceutical,\u00a0and pharmaceutical production.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Hub would also accommodate quality control laboratories, training and capacity-building\u00a0centres, storage and\u00a0logistics\u00a0facilities, warehousing, direct market access services, solar-powered energy solutions, water treatment and recycling plants, business incubation, cooperative\u00a0aggregation,\u00a0and export facilitation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At full maturity, the\u00a0Sheapark\u00a0ecosystem is expected to empower more than 7,000 women in the Upper West\u00a0region while creating thousands of\u00a0additional\u00a0jobs for the youth.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added that the Hub would anchor value chains not only for\u00a0shea\u00a0but also for associated products such as groundnuts, soybeans, sorghum,\u00a0dawadawa,\u00a0cotton,\u00a0and honey.\u00a0<\/p>\n

President\u00a0Mahama\u00a0explained that the\u00a0Sheapark\u00a0Resource Project aligns with the government\u2019s Reset Agenda, which focuses on adding value to products before export.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

This value-addition drive would extend to several commodities nationwide, including\u00a0shea\u00a0nuts, cashews, cotton, cassava, oil\u00a0palm,\u00a0and minerals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
