Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, has conceded defeat in the party\u2019s presidential primaries, following early results indicating a clear lead for former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.<\/p>\n

Preliminary figures from several constituencies show Dr Bawumia ahead of the other contenders as counting continues at polling centres across the country.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media, Mr Agyapong described the outcome as disappointing but said he remained proud of the effort put in by his campaign team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would say that the results were disappointing, but it is positive. I take pride in your dedication, your untiring efforts, your commitment to this struggle,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said he was at peace with the decision of the party\u2019s delegates and stressed the need for unity going forward. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m comfortable that, at the end of the day, the majority of the party has made a decision. Once the majority has taken a decision, it\u2019s incumbent on all of us, patriots of our political party, to give our fullest and wholehearted support to the winner.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Agyapong confirmed that he had already reached out to Dr Bawumia to congratulate him, even as the party awaits an official declaration.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we\u2019ve just received most of the results of these presidential primaries,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve just called the presumptive winner, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to congratulate him on his victory. We are waiting for the official statement from the Electoral Commission, but it\u2019s quite clear that he\u2019s going to win.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Agyapong called on party members across the country to close ranks and focus on the future. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve closed this chapter. It\u2019s now time for us to work in harmony, respect one another, work together, and present the best version of ourselves to the Ghanaian people.\u201d<\/p>\n

He acknowledged that the road ahead would not be easy, noting that the party has about two and a half years to prepare for the 2028 general elections. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo all of us must rally together, put this election behind us, and look forward to 2028,\u201d he urged.<\/p>\n

Mr Agyapong also praised the conduct of the primaries, describing it as a credit to the party and Ghana\u2019s democratic tradition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that as a political tradition, we have shown the whole world that we are responsible for the sustenance of democracy in our country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Agyapong once again congratulated Dr Bawumia and pledged his support. <\/p>\n

\u201cOnce again, my congratulations to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the decisive victory. He can be sure of my fullest support.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
