As part of activities leading up to the Achimota School Centenary in 2027, the Old Achimotan Association (OAA) has rolled out a 24-month calendar of sporting events, including tennis competitions scheduled for January 2026 and February 2027.
\nThis year\u2019s competition will take place at the Accra Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday, January 31, 2026, with matches commencing at 8:00 a.m.
\nIn a bid to generate excitement and revive tradition, the OAA has decided to reintroduce the Triangular Games\u2014a popular annual sporting fixture during the 1970s and early 1980s.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As a pilot initiative, alumni from the participating schools of that era have been invited to compete, ahead of plans to expand the event into a broader inter-school competition.
\nThe participating schools are Achimota School, Mfantsipim School, Adisadel College, Wesley Girls\u2019 High School, Holy Child School, Presbyterian Boys\u2019 School (PRESEC), Legon, and Aburi Girls\u2019 School.
\nAchimota School\u2019s legacy is rooted in what became known as the Achimota Experiment\u2014a bold and visionary educational philosophy championed by Dr. James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey, Rev. Alexander Garden Fraser, and Sir Gordon Guggisberg.
\nThe experiment rejected the idea that education should be purely academic or purely vocational. Instead, it promoted holistic education, emphasizing the balanced development of the head, the hand, and the heart.
\nSport played a central role in this philosophy, serving as a practical platform for nurturing discipline, teamwork, service, and leadership. Through sporting activities, students developed physical fitness, endurance, mental resilience, and a strong sense of team spirit.
\nTeam sports imparted lessons beyond the classroom\u2014teaching sacrifice for the collective good, trust and coordination, and dignity in both victory and defeat. They reinforced values such as fair play, ethical conduct, integrity under pressure, and respect for rules and authority.
\nOver the next two years, the Old Achimotan Association will continue to collaborate with various schools through sport, in support of youth development and in celebration of sporting icons whose legacies have contributed to elevating Ghana\u2019s national pride.<\/p>\n
