Kpandai MP Matthew Nyindam has opened up about the emotional toll of his long legal battle, admitting he almost lost hope as he headed to court on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

His remarks followed a landmark Supreme Court decision that restored his parliamentary seat after months of uncertainty.<\/p>\n

The apex court, by a 4\u20131 majority, overturned the High Court ruling that had annulled his election. The court upheld his application, invoking its supervisory jurisdiction to correct a jurisdictional error, and effectively reinstated him as Member of Parliament for Kpandai.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Joy News\u2019 PM Express, Mr Nyindam said he walked into court unsure of the outcome.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, I didn\u2019t know the outcome, to be honest with you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He explained that being in opposition and reflecting on recent election-related court outcomes made it difficult to predict how the case would end.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew very well that I won this election,\u201d he said, adding that despite allegations of irregularities, he remained confident in the mandate given to him by voters.<\/p>\n

As he prepared for the hearing, Mr Nyindam said he turned fully to faith.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told my God that, look, I have nobody to speak for me. I\u2019ve trusted in God for some time now, and I hope and pray that by the time the judges will speak, God should speak through them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He noted that he had braced himself for any outcome.<\/p>\n

Although confident in the law, he admitted that doubt still lingered. He pointed to the constitutional requirement that election petitions must be filed within 21 days.<\/p>\n

He recalled the Supreme Court\u2019s earlier decision in the Akwatia case, where the justices unanimously accepted December 24, 2024, as the official gazette date for the election, a date confirmed by the Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n

According to him, with the petition filed on January 25, 2025, the matter should not have arisen at all.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was clear that if we really want to uphold the dignity and sanity of our courts, this verdict should come,\u201d he said, adding that he believed it ought to have been unanimous.<\/p>\n

Still, recent developments elsewhere left him uncertain.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut in this country, what I saw from Tamale, I wasn\u2019t too sure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Faced with that uncertainty, Nyindam said he surrendered the outcome entirely to fate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just said, God, let your will be done,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He admitted he feared a rerun election, describing the challenge of running against a candidate backed by state power.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have all the state powers. You have all ministers, CEOs, everybody will come there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Despite the pressure, he said he was prepared to accept whatever decision emerged.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was hoping that the people of Manda will speak, and if they decide otherwise, that is destiny,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
