The Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region has destroyed a large quantity of seized narcotic substances as part of efforts to clamp down on the illegal drug trade in the country.<\/p>\n

The exercise, which was carried out under strict security supervision, involved consignments of suspected cannabis, tramadol, and other illicit drugs intercepted during various anti-narcotics operations across different parts of the region.<\/p>\n

According to the Police, the destruction was carried out in line with legal and environmental safety procedures, after the substances were tendered in court and the necessary orders were obtained for their disposal.<\/p>\n

Officials said the move is intended to prevent the drugs from finding their way back into circulation and to send a strong warning to individuals involved in drug trafficking and abuse.<\/p>\n

The Police noted that the Narcotics Division will continue with intelligence-led operations to arrest suspects, seize illicit drugs, and ensure that offenders are dealt with according to the law.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose involved in drug dealing must stop. We will pursue and arrest them wherever they operate, and they will be made to face the law,\u201d the Ashanti Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit Commander, Superintendent Frazer Nutakor, cautioned.<\/p>\n

The Ghana Police Service also reiterated its commitment to protecting public health and safety, particularly among the youth, through sustained enforcement and public education.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe that it is drug use that is leading these youth into criminal activities, so we are committed to dealing with it,\u201d the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, emphasised.<\/p>\n

The Police further called on the public to support the fight against drug abuse by providing timely information on suspected drug-related activities within their communities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
