Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has described the ongoing campaign ahead of the party\u2019s January 31 presidential primary as a valuable test run for the 2028 general elections.<\/p>\n

His remarks come against the backdrop of public concern over heightened tensions and sharp exchanges among some of the flagbearer aspirants.<\/p>\n

Mr Blay said the spirited contest reflects a healthy internal democracy and is helping to prepare the party for a future electoral battle with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).<\/p>\n

He acknowledged that some comments made during the campaign may have crossed acceptable limits but argued that such moments reveal the true character of individuals\u2014something voters often take into account.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been very competitive and, in many ways, useful. This is a rehearsal for the bigger contest ahead, which is against our main opponents, the NDC. Strong words do not break bones; they tell a story about both those who speak and those who listen. It all contributes to revealing character, and I find nothing fundamentally wrong with what is happening so far,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He spoke on Citi FM.<\/p>\n

Mr Blay also downplayed fears that the intense competition could result in divisions after the primaries, noting that the peace pact signed by the aspirants demonstrates their shared commitment to party unity beyond January 31.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
