Ghana\u2019s growing sports tourism appeal will shift to Koforidua on Saturday, March 7, when SP Sport Promotions, in partnership with T2 Bar, stages a major professional boxing show at the T2 Bar, Total 2, in the Eastern Regional capital.
\nHeadlined by rising prospects George Faho Mensah and Charles Tetteh, both of the SP Sport Management stable, the event is aptly titled \u201c1957\u201d in tribute to Ghana\u2019s Independence, with the nation marking its 69th anniversary a day before fight night.<\/p>\n

At just 21, Mensah will be eager to make a strong statement as he seeks to put behind him the disappointment of his scheduled Commonwealth Silver title fight in the United Kingdom, which was cancelled last November due to visa challenges.
\nWith an impressive record of 11 wins from 12 professional bouts since turning pro in 2022, the talented boxer is expected to thrill the Koforidua crowd as he positions himself for future international opportunities.
\nReputation on the line
\nTetteh, also 21, brings his own pedigree into the ring. A former national super featherweight champion, he was named the Best Boxer at the inaugural Ghana Professional Boxing League in 2022, a feat that earned him a brand new car.
\nStill unbeaten after 13 professional fights, with one draw, Tetteh remains firmly on the rise. Although discussions are ongoing for a lucrative showdown against local rival Isaac Kakraba of Michael Amoo-Bediako\u2019s Lions Sport Management, his immediate focus is on the tune-up bout in Koforidua, 40 days away.
\nSP Sport Promotions CEO Samuel Agyei Darkwah described the event as one of the first major professional boxing shows staged in Koforidua, marking a significant milestone for sports development in the Eastern Region. He explained that the city was deliberately chosen for its strong reputation in tourism, entertainment, sports, and cultural heritage.
\nAccording to Darkwah, SP Sport Promotions and T2 Bar have mapped out a long-term plan to take boxing to more communities across the Eastern Region, driven by a broader agenda of youth development, talent discovery, tourism growth, community building and unity.
\n\u201cIntroducing boxing into the Eastern Region\u2019s sports landscape will further enhance tourism, entertainment and social cohesion,\u201d he said.
\nBeyond the boxing action, fight night promises a full entertainment experience, with comedy and musical performances scheduled between bouts, capped by an all-night after-party at T2 Bar for patrons.
\n\u201cWe chose Koforidua because the Eastern Region is known for tourism, entertainment, sports and culture. Its vibrant youth will also have the opportunity to be scouted and offered opportunities in boxing,\u201d Darkwah told the Graphic Sports.<\/p>\n
