Prince Moulay Rachid, brother of King Mohammed VI, has received members of the Moroccan national football team, runners-up at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), at the Royal Guest Palace in Rabat on Tuesday, January 20.
\nThe reception, held at the direction of King Mohammed VI, was to honour the Atlas Lions for their impressive performance and commendable run throughout the tournament, despite their narrow defeat in the final.<\/p>\n

During the ceremony, Prince Moulay Rachid exchanged greetings with the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, head coach Walid Regragui, and the players. He later posed for commemorative photographs with the team as a symbol of national pride and appreciation for their efforts.
\nMorocco fell to Senegal by a solitary goal in extra time in the final, narrowly missing out on a second AFCON title more than 50 years after their maiden triumph.<\/p>\n

King Mohammed VI had earlier extended his warm congratulations to the team immediately after the final whistle, praising their fighting spirit, discipline, and remarkable commitment throughout the competition.
\nIn his message, the King highlighted the Atlas Lions\u2019 performance as a powerful demonstration of the potential of Moroccan and African youth when talent is nurtured and trusted.
