Dr Kofi Koduah Sarpong, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has downplayed concerns about the outspoken nature of New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, arguing that his temperament is not a disqualifying factor.<\/p>\n

Mr Agyapong, often labelled a \u201cno-nonsense\u201d politician, has attracted criticism within and outside the party for his fiery style and readiness to respond sharply when challenged.<\/p>\n

However, Dr Sarpong says such traits should be viewed in context and balanced against Mr Agyapong\u2019s broader strengths.<\/p>\n

\u201cI looked at the overall picture, and his positives outweighed the negatives,\u201d Dr Sarpong said in an interview with Channel One TV.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople focus on the way he speaks, but for me, that can be managed so that the good in him can be harnessed for the benefit of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also drew attention to Mr Agyapong\u2019s public record, noting that despite his blunt style, he has not been associated with corruption scandals.<\/p>\n

\u201cHave you ever heard that he has been tagged with corruption?\u201d Dr Sarpong asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he sometimes insults people, that is one aspect, but have you considered the totality of his personality?\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Dr Sarpong, closer engagement with the NPP aspirant had revealed a more restrained and humble character, particularly in recent months.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got closer to him and saw how humble he is. He is now behaving in a more presidential manner,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us be honest, in the last six months, have you heard anything negative about him? This is not pretence.\u201d<\/p>\n

He urged party delegates to adopt a broader assessment of leadership qualities as they make their choice.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhatever he is, don\u2019t judge him on one variable,\u201d Dr Sarpong added. \u201cJudge him on the totality of the variables.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
