The Ghana Police Service says it has launched an investigation into a shooting incident involving a female police officer that led to the death of a taxi driver at Tetegu, near Weija, Accra, on Monday, 19th January, 2026.<\/p>\n

The police, in a press release issued Tuesday, said their preliminary findings indicate that the incident followed a confrontation between the policewoman and the taxi driver.<\/p>\n

According to the statement, the officer allegedly shot the driver, who was operating a Hyundai i10 taxi.The victim was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.<\/p>\n

The police say further investigations revealed that the policewoman was subsequently struck by a vehicle as she attempted to leave the scene. She sustained injuries to her head and both legs and is currently on admission, receiving medical attention.<\/p>\n

Exhibits retrieved from the scene include one live 9mm round, a magazine and one empty 9mm cartridge.<\/p>\n

The Police Service says investigations are ongoing and assured the public that further developments would be communicated in due course.<\/p>\n
