So when the DVLA cleared its throat and declared a Digital Revolution, the nation leaned forward. At last, we thought, our vehicles would join us in the modern world. At last, the car would no longer be registered by faith, memory, and faded carbon copies. At last\u2014<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease come in person.\u201d<\/p>\n

And just like that, the revolution put on its sandals.<\/p>\n

Digitisation, we were told, would ensure that older vehicles meet current standards and qualify for the new plate system. A noble cause. A forward march. A Silicon Valley dream\u2014except the march requires fuel, traffic, lost work hours, photocopies, and a queue long enough to form its own constituency.<\/p>\n

Because in the Republic of Queues, progress never travels light.<\/p>\n

The Great Confession<\/p>\n

Citizens, being curious people, began asking inconvenient questions.<\/p>\n

If our records are being digitised now, what exactly were they before?<\/p>\n

Semi-digital? Spiritually archived? Stored in a filing cabinet that answers only to prayer?<\/p>\n

Some professionals read the statement and heard something else entirely:<\/p>\n

Here, digital systems still require:<\/p>\n

your physical presence<\/p>\n

your physical vehicle<\/p>\n

your physical patience<\/p>\n

The computer may be online, but you must remain offline from your livelihood.<\/p>\n

The Economics of Suffering<\/strong><\/p>\n

No one disputes the GH\u00a225 fee too loudly.<\/p>\n

What stings is the hidden invoice:<\/p>\n

lost income<\/p>\n

wasted hours<\/p>\n

transport costs<\/p>\n

emotional exhaustion<\/p>\n

This is not digitisation.<\/p>\n

This is manual suffering with a digital receipt.<\/p>\n

And where queues grow, rumours follow. Whispers of extortion, facilitation, and \u201csmall something\u201d are not created by citizens\u2014they are bred by systems that insist on friction.<\/p>\n

A policy that demands your presence is never neutral.<\/p>\n

And so, we applaud the revolution.<\/p>\n

Our cars are becoming digital.<\/p>\n
