The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has begun formal processes to expel former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, following comments he made in a television interview describing the party as \u201cfake\u201d and questioning its internal democratic credentials.<\/p>\n

In a statement signed by the party\u2019s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it had taken \u201cdue notice\u201d of remarks made by Prof Frimpong-Boateng on Channel One TV on Monday, 12 January 2026, during which he openly stated that he no longer considers himself a member of the party.<\/p>\n

According to the statement, the former minister also made what the party described as \u201cdisparaging remarks\u201d about the NPP and alleged that the 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party\u2019s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Party unequivocally rejects Professor Frimpong-Boateng\u2019s unfortunate characterisation of the NPP and firmly denies his baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 Presidential Primary,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

It stressed that the contest was \u201cfree, fair, transparent, and credible\u201d and had been widely accepted by all aspirants who participated.<\/p>\n

The NPP further described Prof Frimpong-Boateng\u2019s conduct as \u201chighly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the Party\u201d, adding that his public comments undermined internal cohesion and discipline.<\/p>\n

\u201cConsequently, the Party has invoked the relevant provisions of its Constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the Party, strictly in accordance with due process,\u201d the statement concluded.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
