Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet was among the main winners as Hollywood\u2019s finest gathered for this year\u2019s Golden Globe Awards.<\/p>\n

Chalamet, 30, continued\u00a0his pursuit of greatness\u00a0and an Oscar by beating stars including Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney to the best actor in a musical or comedy award for the table tennis caper Marty Supreme.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite DiCaprio missing out, his film One Battle After Another won the most awards overall, with four prizes, including best musical or comedy film and best director.<\/p>\n

Irish actress Jessie Buckley was named best drama actress for Hamnet, which also scored a surprise win in the best drama film category.<\/p>\n

Sinners had been considered the frontrunner, but it instead went home with the box office achievement prize and the best score.<\/p>\n

The Golden Globes are a key stop on the road to the Academy Awards, and other acting winners on Sunday included Teyana Taylor, Rose Byrne, Wagner Moura and Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd.<\/p>\n

Unlike the Oscars, the Globes also reward TV shows, and the night saw British actors Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty pick up more honours for their performances in Netflix drama Adolescence.<\/p>\n

Chalamet\u2019s \u2018sweet\u2019 win<\/h2>\n

With all eyes on the Oscars race,\u00a0Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/strong>\u2018s victory has given him a boost over his rivals. \u201cI\u2019m in a category with many greats,\u201d he said when accepting his trophy.<\/p>\n

It was Chalamet\u2019s fifth Globes nomination, but his first win. \u201cMy dad instilled in me a spirit of gratitude growing up, always be grateful for what you have,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s allowed me to leave this ceremony in the past empty-handed, my head held high, grateful just to be here. But I\u2019d be lying if I didn\u2019t say those moments make this moment that much sweeter.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor my parents, for my partner, I love you so much,\u201d he added, looking at girlfriend Kylie Jenner.<\/p>\n

Jessie Buckley says win is \u2018real honour\u2019<\/h2>\n

Jessie Buckley\u00a0<\/strong>was named best actress for her role in the adaptation of Maggie O\u2019Farrell\u2019s best-selling novel Hamnet, about the death of William Shakespeare\u2019s son.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not a normal feeling or situation to be in,\u201d she said in her acceptance speech.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was such an extraordinary set to be part of, because we were telling the story of probably the most famous Brit that ever lived, and we had a Chinese director, a lot of Irish, a mostly Polish crew, beside our British family.\u201d<\/p>\n

She concluded: \u201cThis is a real honour, I love being part of this industry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shortly afterwards, Hamnet director\u00a0Chloe Zhao<\/strong>\u00a0looked visibly shocked when the movie was announced as the winner of best drama film.<\/p>\n

Accepting the prize, producer Steven Spielberg said he had \u201cloved the book\u201d by O\u2019Farrell, but felt Zhao was \u201cthe only film-maker on the face of the planet who could tell the story\u201d.<\/p>\n

Zhao said: \u201cThe village of Hamnet that made this film together. Some of them lost their loved ones while we were making this film, and some of them are still struggling, and I just wanted to say we\u2019re thinking of you, we\u2019re here because of you, we love you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Teyana Taylor\u2019s tearful message<\/h2>\n

Elsewhere, singer and actress\u00a0Teyana Taylor<\/strong>, whose career started when she choreographed a Beyonce music video at the age of 15, cemented her Hollywood breakthrough by winning best supporting film actress for One Battle After Another.<\/p>\n

After tearfully thanking a list of people, she used her acceptance speech to send a message to \u201cmy brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur light does not need permission to shine,\u201d she told them. \u201cWe belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swedish actor\u00a0Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd<\/strong>, 74, won best supporting actor for Sentimental Value, and joked that he hadn\u2019t prepared a speech \u201cbecause I thought that I was too old\u201d.<\/p>\n

He then made an impassioned plea for people to see films like his on the big screen. \u201cCinema should be seen in cinemas,\u201d he said to cheers from the crowd.<\/p>\n

Australia\u2019s\u00a0Rose Byrne<\/strong>\u00a0was named best actress in a film musical or comedy for If I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You, and paid tribute to members of her family.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy brother\u2019s my date. Thanks, George,\u201d she laughed. \u201cThanks to my mum and dad, who bought Paramount+ so they could watch the Golden Globes from Sydney.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I want to thank my husband, Bobby Cannavale. He couldn\u2019t be here because, um, we\u2019re getting a bearded dragon, and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey. So thank you, baby.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rose Byrne was named best musical or comedy actress for If I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Meanwhile,\u00a0KPop Demon Hunters<\/strong>\u00a0won best animated film and best song for\u00a0Golden<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Brazilian political thriller\u00a0The Secret Agent<\/strong>\u00a0was named best international film, while its star,\u00a0Wagner Moura,<\/strong>\u00a0won best actor in a drama<\/span>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a film about generational trauma,\u201d he said, \u201cand I think that if trauma can be passed along generations, values can too. So this is to the ones that are sticking with their values in difficult moments.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adolescence star \u2018still learning\u2019<\/h2>\n

British teenager\u00a0Owen Cooper<\/strong>\u00a0continued a year of adulation and awards acclaim for his performance in Adolescence, winning the best TV supporting actor award.<\/p>\n

The 16-year-old from Warrington appears to be keeping his feet on the ground, telling the assembled A-listers: \u201cI\u2019m still very much an apprentice. I\u2019m still learning every day. I\u2019m still learning from the people that are sitting in front of you and sitting in front of me.\u201d<\/p>\n

And he still seems in disbelief at his meteoric rise, remarking: \u201cIt\u2019s mad, what is going on?\u201d before signing off with the motto of his beloved Liverpool FC: \u201cYou\u2019ll never walk alone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seth Rogen won best comedy TV actor for his leading role in Hollywood satire The Studio<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Seth Rogen<\/strong>\u00a0also won a TV prize and had a sense of deja vu after setting an episode of his Apple TV comedy The Studio at the Golden Globes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is so weird, we just pretended to do this, and now it\u2019s happening,\u201d he said when picking up the trophy for best TV comedy actor.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought the only way I would get to hold one was to create a whole show to give myself a fake one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other TV winners included\u00a0Jean Smart<\/strong>\u00a0for Hacks,\u00a0Noah Wyle<\/strong>\u00a0for The Pitt and\u00a0Michelle Williams<\/strong>\u00a0for Dying for Sex.<\/p>\n
