President John\u00a0Mahama\u00a0has announced that the Government has commissioned a\u00a0Singaporean\u00a0Company to build housing units for the security forces \u2013 Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prison Service, Ghana National Fire\u00a0Service\u00a0and the Ghana Armed Forces.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said,\u00a0during his\u00a0visit to\u00a0Singapore in 2025, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Company to set up a\u00a0prefab\u00a0industry (a factory) to produce prefabricated buildings.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He noted that the Company\u2019s first assignment was to build a 10,000-student hostel in the University of Ghana.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we have also commissioned them to build housing for our Police Service, our Prisons, Fire Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces,\u201d President\u00a0Mahama\u00a0said in his address at Ghana Police Service end of year get-together meeting, popularly known as WASSA, which was held at the Police Headquarters in Accra.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He noted that under the Government\u2019s Big Push Agenda, one could find that the security\u00a0forces\u00a0accommodation situation would improve very dramatically.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd\u00a0so\u00a0start identifying your lands in your various barracks,\u00a0where we will build this accommodation so that we can provide enough accommodation for our police service.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

President\u00a0Mahama\u00a0said\u00a0West\u00a0African Soldiers Social Activity\u00a0(\u00a0WASSA)\u00a0was more than tradition and fellowship;\u00a0stating\u00a0that it was a moment of reflection on service, sacrifice, and their shared responsibility to safeguard peace and stability of their beloved nation, Ghana.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He noted that WASSA\u00a0offered\u00a0them a pause in the demanding work of policing and that it was a time to renew bonds of comradeship and recommit to the values that define the Ghana Police Service.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He commended\u00a0Mr\u00a0Christian\u00a0Tetteh\u00a0Yohuno, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the\u00a0leadership\u00a0and personnel of the Ghana Police Service for their commendable performance during the recent Christmas season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a lot of visitors coming into Ghana and there was a lot of activity over the Christmas period. You made sure that crime was kept at a very, very,\u00a0very, very low\u00a0level and we thank you very much for your diligence,\u201d he stated\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cNormally, periods like this, place exceptional demands on our law enforcement agencies due to the increased travel, social activities, and heightened security risk.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said through careful planning and discipline, intelligence-led operations, the Service ensured that Ghanaians celebrated the Christmas and New Year in peace and safety.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The President acknowledged the IGP and his Police Management Board for the strategic deployment of personnel across the nation\u2019s highways communities, markets, places of worship, transport terminals, and venues of entertainment. Adding that\u00a0this visible police\u00a0presence reassured the citizens and\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0a vigilant and responsive police service.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u00a0said,\u00a0he was encouraged by the speed and professionalism with which incidents were handled.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Adding that reports were addressed\u00a0promptly,\u00a0suspects were promptly, swiftly apprehended, and criminal activities were disrupted before they could escalate.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us sustain this momentum and send a clear message that there will be no hiding place for criminal elements.\u201d He\u00a0stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

President\u00a0Mahama\u00a0noted that the revival of WASSA after a long pause was symbolic.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said it\u00a0reminded\u00a0them that institutions like individuals must periodically reflect, reassess, realign, and renew their commitment to purpose.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said this year\u2019s WASSA celebration\u00a0represented\u00a0both continuity and renewal;\u00a0stating\u00a0that the theme \u201cResetting the Police Service, Professionalism, Integrity, and Building Public Trust\u201d, was\u00a0a\u00a0 timely\u00a0one.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said\u00a0it reflected\u00a0the evolving challenges of modern policing and legitimate expectations of the Ghanaian people.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere can be no meaningful development without security. Every trader, every student, every\u00a0commuter\u00a0and investor depends on a sense of safety. Security is therefore foundational to our national\u00a0life\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said resetting does not suggest failure, nor does it diminish the proud history of the Ghana Police Service.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u00a0said\u00a0it\u00a0recognized\u00a0that changing realities\u00a0required\u00a0adaptation,\u00a0required\u00a0reform\u00a0and renewed commitment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said a reset\u00a0builds on\u00a0strengths, addresses weaknesses, and\u00a0aligned\u00a0policing with democratic values, human rights standards, and the expectations of a modern society.\u00a0<\/p>\n

President\u00a0Mahama\u00a0said the\u00a0centre\u00a0of the reset was professionalism; saying \u201cprofessionalism must guide our conduct at every level, from leadership to daily interactions with the public\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt must be evident in arrests, in investigations, in crowd control, and the treatment of suspects, victims, and witnesses.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr\u00a0Christian\u00a0Tetteh\u00a0Yohuno, the Inspector General of Police, said the 2025 end of year gathering of the Police, popularly known as WASA was to enable them\u00a0take\u00a0some time off their busy schedules to appreciate one another and to say \u201cwell-done\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
