The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called for the Bank of Ghana to be protected from political interference, stressing that the central bank\u2019s independence is critical to national economic stability.<\/p>\n

He made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, on Wednesday, January 7, describing the institution as one whose decisions have far-reaching consequences for every Ghanaian.<\/p>\n

According to the Asantehene, the Bank of Ghana occupies a unique position in the country\u2019s governance architecture and must be shielded from partisan pressures that could undermine its credibility and effectiveness.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a unique institution with a mandate that ultimately affects every citizen of the land. Ideally, this citadel should be a fortress insulated from the strings and arrows of political warfare. We should think twice before doing anything that has the capacity to compromise the integrity of the bank,\u201d he cautioned.<\/p>\n

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II appealed to political actors across the divide to grant the Governor and his management team the space, respect and support required to discharge their professional responsibilities without undue influence.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will appeal to the nation and both sides of the political divide to give the Governor and his team the chance and the space to perform their duties. This is our bank; if they fail, we risk collapse, but if they succeed, we walk in wealth and glory,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Asantehene expressed confidence in the leadership of the Bank of Ghana, noting that with the right support and independence, the institution is well placed to deliver on its mandate in the interest of sustained economic growth and stability.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
