US President Donald Trump said in a lengthy interview about his health that he takes more aspirin than doctors recommend, uses makeup to cover bruising on his hands, and does not get regular exercise because he finds it \u201cboring\u201d.<\/p>\n

Trump also told The Wall Street Journal that he underwent a CT scan in October, after incorrectly telling reporters that he had undergone a more detailed MRI scan.<\/p>\n

Trump, 79, is the oldest president inaugurated in US history, and signs of age have been showing. He has at times appeared to fall asleep in meetings and not be able to hear questions.<\/p>\n

The Journal said Trump \u201cexpressed irritation about the public debate over his health\u201d, which he described as \u201cperfect\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s talk about health again for the 25th time,\u201d he said at the start of an \u201cimpromptu phone call\u201d as the newspaper prepared to publish a story about Trump\u2019s health.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy health is perfect,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Trump said he has taken larger than recommended doses of aspirin for the last 25 years, even as he said it caused him to bruise easily.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I don\u2019t want thick blood pouring through my heart,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

He takes 325mg of aspirin per day, rather than the 81mg dose sometimes recommended by doctors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019d rather have me take the smaller one,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

But he does not want to switch routines after so many years. \u201cI\u2019m a little superstitious,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The president also talked about the medical scan he received at Walter Reed National Medical Center, which he previously said was an MRI scan.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t an MRI,\u201d Trump told the Journal. \u201cIt was less than that. It was a scan.\u201d<\/p>\n

A doctor for Trump, Navy Capt Sean Barbaella, said in a statement provided to the Journal that Trump had undergone a CT scan, \u201cto definitively rule out any cardiovascular issues\u201d and that the testing revealed no abnormalities.<\/p>\n

After Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition in older people, he was advised to wear compression socks but he declined.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t like them,\u201d Trump said, adding that he now gets up from his desk more regularly, which has improved swelling in his legs.<\/p>\n

Still, the president said he prefers not to practice any form of regular exercise, other than golfing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just don\u2019t like it. It\u2019s boring,\u201d Trump said. \u201cTo walk on a treadmill or run on a treadmill for hours and hours like some people do, that\u2019s not for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president maintained that he has not nodded off during public meetings, saying he closes his eyes at times because he finds it \u201crelaxing\u201d. As for the bruising seen on his hands in some photos, Trump said he now carries makeup in case his hand gets \u201cwhacked\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have makeup that\u2019s, you know, easy to put on, takes about 10 seconds,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Trump said he does not have trouble with his hearing, and when photographers have taken photos of him when he appears to be sleeping, he said \u201csometimes they\u2019ll take a picture of me blinking\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd they\u2019ll catch me with the blink.\u201d<\/p>\n

Barbabella said in the statement to the Journal that Trump is in \u201cexceptional health and perfectly suited to execute his duties as Commander in Chief.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
