Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged members of the opposition NPP to close ranks and remain focused as the party prepares to elect a new flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, describing the moment as \u201cdefining\u201d in the party\u2019s journey.<\/p>\n

In a New Year message addressed to party faithful, Dr. Bawumia reminded members that the NPP was founded on the principles of freedom, justice and equal opportunity, stressing that these values require unity, discipline and leadership grounded in selfless service and strong character.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe may differ in opinions, but we must never differ in purpose,\u201d he said, warning that internal divisions only weaken the party. \u201cUnity strengthens us, and history will judge us not by how loudly we speak, but by how wisely we choose.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Bawumia called on party members to rally together ahead of the January 31 flagbearer election, which he described as the beginning of the NPP\u2019s comeback journey. <\/p>\n

He said the party must select a leader of integrity, dedication and genuine service, noting that leadership should be about responsibility, not privilege, and about creating opportunities for all Ghanaians, not just a few.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted recent constitutional reforms within the party, including the expansion of the Electoral College, aimed at enhancing inclusivity and giving a broader voice to NPP members nationwide.<\/p>\n

Touching on the ongoing flagbearer contest, Dr. Bawumia cautioned against personal attacks and actions that could deepen divisions within the party. He stressed that the contest should be based on ideas and vision, not internal hostility, warning that such conduct only benefits political opponents.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should not be distracted by storms around us, rumours or perceived divisions,\u201d he said. \u201cThis contest must be about building the future of our party and our country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reaffirming his commitment to the party, Dr. Bawumia assured supporters that he remains dedicated to rebuilding the NPP and restoring the trust of the Ghanaian people. He urged members to listen closely to the concerns of citizens, emphasising that the party\u2019s relevance depends on how well it responds to the needs of ordinary Ghanaians.<\/p>\n

He also praised NPP Members of Parliament for their role in holding the government accountable, noting that although the party\u2019s presence in Parliament may be reduced, its resolve remains strong.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur mighty Minority may be smaller in numbers, but we are determined,\u201d he said. \u201cWe must win 2028 for the sake of Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
