The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that President John Dramani Mahama has allocated $30 million in grant funding from the Chinese government to begin construction of a new University of Science and Technology in Damongo.<\/p>\n

The disclosure was made during the inauguration of the Governing Councils of four Colleges of Education\u2014Agogo Presbyterian Women\u2019s College of Education, Gbewa College of Education, Al-Faruq College of Education, and Enchi College of Education.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, Mr Iddrisu confirmed that the grant will be used to kickstart the construction of the new university.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Mahama has dedicated $30 million of grant money he received from the Chinese government for us to begin work on a new University of Science and Technology in Damongo, and work has begun,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He explained that recommendations have been forwarded to the Ministers for Foreign Affairs and Finance to commence a feasibility study, which will include consultations with relevant stakeholders to identify a suitable site for the university.<\/p>\n

Beyond the new university project, the Education Minister reaffirmed his commitment to improving Damongo Girls\u2019 Secondary School, with plans to elevate it to Category A status.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdditionally, I\u2019m giving some attention to Damango Girls\u2019 Secondary School. I intend to elevate it to a Category A school, but I\u2019ll work the process so that I don\u2019t compromise quality by declaring it a Category A school,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

He added that the school would receive targeted support to enhance its development.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will also receive some measurable support. And by the end of 2026, we should see some work at Damongo Secondary School,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The initiative underscores the government\u2019s broader commitment to expanding access to higher education and strengthening educational infrastructure, particularly in underserved regions of the country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
