THE Acting Chief Director of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC), Mr Sumaila Ewuntomah Abudu, has urged health service administrators across the country to strengthen primary healthcare delivery through effective leadership.<\/p>\n

He said strong leadership would promote efficient resource management, professional discipline and innovative approaches to healthcare delivery.<\/p>\n

Mr Abudu made the call at the 49th Annual Conference of the Association of Health Service Administrators, Ghana (AHSAG), in Tamale yesterday.<\/p>\n

The conference, held on the theme, \u201cBuilding resilient free primary healthcare systems for universal health coverage: The leadership role of health service administrators,\u201d formed part of the association\u2019s Continuing Professional Education Programme for health sector professionals.<\/p>\n

It brought together stakeholders from across the health sector to discuss strategies for strengthening healthcare delivery.<\/p>\n

Mr Abudu described the theme as timely and consistent with the country\u2019s objective of building a healthcare system that was accessible, affordable, equitable and responsive to the needs of all citizens, regardless of their geographical location or socioeconomic circumstances.<\/p>\n

He expressed the appreciation of the Regional Coordinating Council to AHSAG\u2019s National Executive Committee for selecting the Northern Region to host the conference.<\/p>\n

He said the decision underscored the region\u2019s importance to the national development agenda and provided an opportunity for stakeholders to explore practical ways of improving healthcare delivery, particularly at the primary level.<\/p>\n

Mr Abudu commended health service administrators for their contributions to creating an enabling environment for effective healthcare delivery across the country.<\/p>\n

He said although the government provided policy direction and financing frameworks for primary healthcare, administrators played a crucial role in translating policies, plans and programmes into tangible results.<\/p>\n

Without competent and committed administrators, he said, even well-designed government policies could remain unimplemented, thereby limiting their intended benefits to the population.<\/p>\n

He, therefore, called for coordinated action among government institutions, health professionals, administrators and other stakeholders to remove bottlenecks, strengthen institutional capacity and improve access to essential healthcare services.<\/p>\n

Mr Abudu described primary healthcare as the foundation of an effective, equitable and resilient health system, noting that it often served as the first point of contact between individuals, families and formal healthcare institutions.<\/p>\n

He said it played a critical role in disease prevention, health promotion, early diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

For his part, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, stressed the importance of promoting staff welfare, inclusivity and fairness at all levels of the organisation.<\/p>\n
