The Speaker of Parliament has reaffirmed Parliament\u2019s commitment to transparency, accountability, and open governance,\u00a0emphasising\u00a0the media\u2019s crucial role in Ghana\u2019s democratic development.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Alban Sumana Bagbin, speaking at the Parliament Media Soiree and Recognition Night 2025, acknowledged the Parliamentary Press Corps as a vital link between Parliament and the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cA free, professional, and independent media remains central to informed citizenship, public confidence, and effective democratic oversight.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

This was contained in a statement issued by\u00a0Mr\u00a0David Sebastian\u00a0Damoah, the Director of Media Relations, Parliament, and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It said the Speaker commended journalists for their dedication to\u00a0accurate\u00a0and ethical reporting amid challenges such as misinformation and the demands of digital media.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The event\u00a0honoured\u00a0outstanding contributions across media platforms, highlighting the importance of storytelling in simplifying complex legislative processes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Awards\u00a0recognised\u00a0excellence, integrity, and innovation in parliamentary reporting, reinforcing the media\u2019s watchdog role and channelling diverse citizen voices.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Among the award winners were Best Print Journalist,\u00a0Mr\u00a0Ernest Kofi Adu, Daily Guide; Best Radio and TV Journalist,\u00a0Kwaku Asante, Joy News; Best Radio and TV Journalists (Twi),\u00a0Mr\u00a0Emmanuel\u00a0Akorli, Peace FM; and Best Online Journalist,\u00a0Ms\u00a0Elsie Appiah-Osei, Ghana News Agency.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The others were Best Social Media Journalist,\u00a0Mr\u00a0Frank Bruce,\u00a0Odikro\u00a0Media; Best Television Camera Person,\u00a0Mr\u00a0Paul\u00a0Egbenya,\u00a0CitiFM\/Channel One; and Public Service Broadcasting,\u00a0Ms\u00a0Racheal Quartey, Ghana Television.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Speaker and the Clerk of Parliament,\u00a0Mr\u00a0Ebenezer\u00a0Ahumah\u00a0Djietror, received special citations for supporting press freedom and fostering a collaborative environment for the press corps.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
