Actor James Ransone died Friday, apparently by suicide, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner. He was 46.<\/p>\n

Ransone, a native of Maryland, was best known for playing Ziggy Sobotka in the TV series \u201cThe Wire\u201d and for his role as Eddie Kaspbrak in the horror movie \u201cIt: Chapter Two.\u201d<\/p>\n

He acted on shows such as \u201cGeneration Kill\u201d and \u201cBosch,\u201d with his final TV appearance in a Season 2 episode of \u201cPoker Face\u201d that aired in June, according to\u00a0The Movie Database.<\/p>\n

Ransone\u2019s other film credits included roles in the \u201cSinister\u201d horror franchise, \u201cTangerine,\u201d \u201cMr. Right\u201d and the \u201cBlack Phone\u201d series of films.<\/p>\n

Ransone opened up about the social challenges he faced growing up in a\u00a0conversation with Interview magazine in 2016.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did not fit in well with all of the kids,\u201d he said. \u201cAdolescence was a really hard time for me\u2014as I think it is for most kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ransone said he had a hard time with \u201cnormal public schools,\u201d so his mother found an arts school he could audition for, and he jumped at the opportunity.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it saved me as a kid,\u201d Ransone said. \u201cGoing to arts school saved me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ransone later attended film school in New York, but he said he failed because he \u201cdidn\u2019t show up to class.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ransone \u201ckicked around for a couple of years\u201d and pursued some smaller acting opportunities while also playing a lot of music, at one point considering a career as a musician.<\/p>\n

After a few years, he realized that acting was his calling.<\/p>\n

\u201cI woke up at 27 after being on heroin for five years,\u201d Ransone said. \u201cIt was like I sobered up and I realized: \u2018My job is being an actor. This is crazy!’\u201d<\/p>\n

Ransone said he sobered up six or seven months before he worked on \u201cGeneration Kill,\u201d a job that ended up being transformative.<\/p>\n

Because his father was a Vietnam War veteran, Ransone said, being around Marines who had fought in war while they were young allowed him to see a \u201cversion of my dad as a young man.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of things started to make sense to me in a different way,\u201d Ransone said. \u201cIt didn\u2019t do so much for my career, but it shaped me and the way that I think about my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ransone is survived by his wife, Jamie McPhee, and their two children.<\/p>\n

Ransone\u2019s representatives did not immediately reply to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
