Traders in Accra Central say they remain hopeful for improved sales as Christmas approaches<\/p>\n

Traders in Accra Central say they remain hopeful for improved sales as Christmas approaches, despite a slow and uncertain market.<\/p>\n

They said the season, usually associated with increased business activity, had brought mixed feelings as sales had not matched expectations.<\/p>\n

A visit by the Ghana News Agency to the area showed a crowded market, but traders reported that the high foot traffic had not translated into purchases.<\/p>\n

zekiel, a seller of Christmas decorations, said sales had been below expectation but he remained optimistic.<\/p>\n

\u201cSales are not coming in as I anticipated, but it is not too bad. I believe that before December 25, I will make enough sales,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Madam Esther, a second\u2011hand clothing dealer, said business had been very poor.<\/p>\n

She noted that although the dollar had depreciated and prices had reduced, customers were still not buying.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sold just two clothes the day before yesterday, and the money went into food and transport that same day. As of today, I have not sold anything,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Another trader, Joyce Owusu, who also sells second\u2011hand clothing, said sales were better last Christmas even though prices were higher.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast December, prices were high, but I made enough sales. This year, prices are lower, there are many people around, but sales are not coming. Please tell Ato Forson that he is not forcing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
