The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs (MLGCRA) has continued its extensive unannounced inspection exercise across selected Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region ahead of the yuletide season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The inspection is to assess the various Assemblies\u2019 commitment to sanitation, following the government\u2019s declaration of a one-week national sanitation exercise.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The delegation from the Ministry today inspected the\u00a0Okaikwei\u00a0North, Ga South, Ga\u00a0North\u00a0and the Ga\u202fCentral Municipal Assemblies.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking after the tour, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister for MLGCRA, commended Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for their active participation in the ongoing National Sanitation Week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He urged them to sustain the momentum beyond\u00a0the exercise.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr. Ibrahim said recent unannounced field inspections had put MMDCEs \u201con their feet,\u201d noting that many of them arrived at official meetings directly from sanitation exercises,\u00a0an indication\u00a0of renewed commitment to improving environmental cleanliness.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said the approach aligned with President John Dramani Mahama\u2019s \u201cResetting Ghana\u201d agenda, which\u00a0emphasised\u00a0proactive leadership rather than armchair governance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Minister said the National Sanitation Week, which began on Saturday, would continue until the end of the week, with the\u00a0objective\u00a0of ensuring that communities were not only clean but visibly improved.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said alongside the sanitation activities, regional ministers were distributing streetlights to MMDCEs across the country as part of a nationwide effort to brighten communities and enhance safety.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr. Ibrahim said preparations were far advanced for the\u00a0operationalisation\u00a0of a national sanitation complaints\u00a0centre, with consultants currently training staff who would\u00a0man\u00a0a 10-computer call\u00a0centre\u00a0to receive reports from the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMotorbikes have been procured and branded for sanitation monitors to relay information on filthy areas directly to the\u00a0centre\u00a0as well,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said the government was introducing a \u201c24-hour sanitation\u201d strategy to address congestion challenges in busy urban areas, with sweeping and street washing to be intensified during off-peak hours.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Minister stressed that sanitation efforts would continue even after the official sanitation week ends.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He commended the media for its support and visibility in promoting the sanitation campaign, while urging MMDCEs to\u00a0demonstrate\u00a0initiative without constant supervision.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr. Ibrahim cautioned that unannounced inspections would continue nationwide, insisting that internal motivation must guide leadership performance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed the government\u2019s resolve to make Accra and the entire country cleaner, calling on all stakeholders to play their part in sustaining the sanitation drive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
