Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati has been named the women\u2019s player of the year at the Fifa Best Awards for the third year in a row, while England manager Sarina Wiegman is coach of the year for a fifth time.<\/p>\n

Bonmati, 27, was a key part of the Spain team that finished runners-up to England at Euro 2025, where she won the player of the tournament prize.<\/p>\n

The Spaniard won a domestic treble with Barcelona \u2013 scoring 12 and assisting six goals in La Liga F \u2013 but was a runner-up in the Champions League with her club, who lost to Arsenal in the final.<\/p>\n

Bonmati was named the competition\u2019s player of the season by Uefa, registering nine goal contributions in her 11 appearances and scoring in their 4-1 semi-final second-leg win at Chelsea.<\/p>\n

She said of her Fifa award: \u201cI am grateful to have the honour. If it wasn\u2019t for all the players, coaches and the fans, I would not win it \u2013 [but] I will enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bonmati was also awarded the women\u2019s Ballon d\u2019Or in September, becoming the first player to win it three times, having received it in 2023 and 2024.<\/p>\n

She earned the Fifa Best award in 2023 following Spain\u2019s World Cup victory, and again in 2024 after winning a historic quadruple with Barcelona.<\/p>\n

Arsenal and Spain midfielder Mariona Caldentey and Barcelona forward Alexia Putellas were also nominated for this year\u2019s FIFA Best honour.<\/p>\n

Paris St-Germain and France forward\u00a0Ousmane Dembele won the men\u2019s award\u00a0at the ceremony in Qatar.<\/p>\n

Wiegman earns fifth coach of the year award<\/h2>\n

Wiegman was honoured as the best women\u2019s coach of the year after guiding England to a second consecutive European title.<\/p>\n

She is the first coach to win the award five times.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an absolute honour to receive this award again,\u201d said Wiegman.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you to the FA for their continued support for me and the team. This award is actually for players and staff. We\u2019ve shown so much conviction, belief and togetherness that led us to our second Euro win.<\/p>\n

\u201cMoving into 2026, let\u2019s keep pushing the women\u2019s game forward together and create an environment for every player so that they can reach their full potential.\u201d<\/p>\n

England were unlikely winners at Euro 2025, following a period of uncertainty marked by a string of tough results and player retirements.<\/p>\n

But Wiegman guided the Lionesses to a second straight success in Switzerland, as they defeated Spain on penalties in the final.<\/p>\n

She beat Chelsea\u2019s Sonia Bompastor and Arsenal\u2019s Renee Slegers to the award.<\/p>\n

Hampton wins goalkeeper award<\/h2>\n

Hannah Hampton was named the Best Fifa women\u2019s goalkeeper after helping England defend their European title this summer, where she also won the Golden Glove by keeping 13 clean sheets.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old was also part of Chelsea\u2019s domestic treble-winning team last season.<\/p>\n

Hampton thanked England manager Wiegman and Chelsea boss Bompastor \u201cfor the belief in me this year\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith club and country, we have achieved so much, and there is still much more for us to go and get,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo the fans, both club and country, your support doesn\u2019t go unnoticed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hear you cheering every single game loud and prou,d and it helps push us on to go and get the win for you all. So, thank you very much.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hampton was also awarded the Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d\u2019Or ceremony in September.<\/p>\n

She started every England game at Euro 2025 and all of Chelsea\u2019s matches in an unbeaten Women\u2019s Super League season.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Lizbeth Ovalle won the Marta Award for the best goal in women\u2019s football with her scorpion kick for Tigres against Guadalajara in Mexico\u2019s Liga MX Femenil in March.<\/p>\n

Ovalle now plays for Orlando Pride in the National Women\u2019s Soccer League in the US.<\/p>\n

Barcelona dominate Best XI<\/h2>\n

Four of England\u2019s Euro 2025 winners were named in the Best Fifa women\u2019s XI, which Barcelona otherwise dominated.<\/p>\n

Leah Williamson and Alessia Russo were recognised for winning the Champions League with Arsenal, while Chelsea duo Hampton and Lucy Bronze were also named in the team.<\/p>\n
