Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Bryan Acheampong has refused to confirm or deny claims that he gave $1,500 to Eastern Regional constituency executives.<\/p>\n

The former Abetifi MP insisted the matter was an internal party issue and not for public discussion.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Joy News\u2019 PM Express on Tuesday, the former Agric Minister was confronted with a viral video in which he is heard speaking about financial contributions to party executives. <\/p>\n

Asked directly whether he made the payments, he declined to comment saying, \u201cI\u2019m not going to admit to anything\u201d.<\/p>\n

When pressed further, he said conversations about internal party support should not be aired publicly. <\/p>\n

\u201cInternal party support is not one for general public consumption,\u201d he added, \u201cWhat we do for the party and what we communicate within the party must stay within the party.\u201d<\/p>\n

He insisted that discussions with party members were private. \u201cIf I meet party people and I\u2019m talking to them about my contribution to the party, it is within that space,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Host Evans Mensah pointed out that the video was already in the public domain, but Dr Acheampong responded, \u201cI\u2019m saying I\u2019m talking to party delegates.\u201d <\/p>\n

When the host noted that there was nothing wrong with contributing to the party, Dr Acheampong maintained his position. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a party conversation, the conversation that you have with party people,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

He acknowledged that political parties are public entities but stressed that internal discussions remain restricted. <\/p>\n

\u201cMembership of that party is restricted to and conversation within is restricted to members of the party.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said any official communication would come through the party\u2019s structures. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we want to put out, our press department will put out,\u201d he said. \u201cBut conversations within the party stay within the party, and my contribution within the party stays with and must remain with the members of the party.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked directly whether he gave $1,500 to every constituency executive nationwide, Dr Acheampong declined again. <\/p>\n

\u201cDoesn\u2019t matter how you perm the numbers, the answer is the same,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is an internal party conversation, and it should stay there.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
