Pupils from Mothercare School in Accra have responded to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF)\u2019s desperate calls for financial support to help retool specialist hospitals across the country.<\/p>\n

The children, led by the management of their school, stormed the premises of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund on Friday, 12th December 2025, requesting the opportunity to donate to the fund.<\/p>\n

They had managed to save GH\u00a28,000 through their weekly Wednesday morning devotion offerings throughout the year to help save someone they may never meet. <\/p>\n

And their message was simple; they are from the Mothercare School and are willing to partner with MahamaCares to show love and care to the sick in society.<\/p>\n

The Principal of the school, Madam Peace Abasah Addo, who led them, said, \u201cWhat we are doing is from the little coins that learners offer during our Wednesday school worship. So, we have put all together, and that is what we use to reach out to the vulnerable year. <\/p>\n

\u201cToday we are here at the Ghana Medical Trust Fund to donate our widow\u2019s mite to the fund, and we pray that this one will give somebody life one day\u201d.<\/p>\n

She told the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, that giving to support the needy is a passion they have passed on to their pupils.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe school has a passion for reaching out to the vulnerable and the less privileged in society, and we do it every year, specifically in December, so this December too, we looked around to get a place to reach out, and we thought of coming to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, she noted.<\/p>\n

This gesture, according to Ms Obuobia Darko-Opoku, was not just a contribution but an act of love in action. It was compassion, hope, and kindness, gathered one morning at a time by these children, who wanted to support a Ghanaian they may never meet in life.<\/p>\n

She noted that \u201cthis is a gesture which builds essential character traits like empathy, responsibility and compassion, which fosters self-esteem and community connection. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis also clearly shows that indeed these children are being trained to shift focus from self to others and to develop lifelong habits of kindness and social responsibility, which marks their journey to becoming considerate and balanced adults.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Darko-Opoku was particularly grateful to the school\u2019s management for leading the children to her secretariat to respond to the Trust Fund\u2019s call for support.<\/p>\n

The GMTF Administrator noted that \u201cI am overwhelmed, and I want to reiterate that this kind of gesture is what we need as a fund because such little drops of water will one day make a mighty ocean. <\/p>\n

\u201cI will call on other schools and institutions to emulate this kind gesture and visit us and donate towards this worthy cause.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, an initiative of President John Mahama, is to provide financial support for Ghanaians with serious, costly chronic illnesses, such as cancer, kidney failure, and heart disease, that are not fully covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).<\/p>\n

The Fund aims to bridge gaps in specialised care, enhance health infrastructure, and prevent families from falling into poverty due to treatment costs.<\/p>\n
