Ghana\u2019s national phygital basketball team, a project of the Ghana Esports Federation (GESF), will travel to the United\u202fArab\u202fEmirates later this month to take part in the Games of the Future, an annual international tournament that fuses physical sport with digital gaming.<\/p>\n

The four players and three officials will represent Ghana from 17\u202fto\u202f24\u202fDecember\u202f2025 in Abu\u202fDhabi, joining more than 100 nations and over 2\u202f000 spectators at the Abu\u202fDhabi National Exhibition Centre.<\/p>\n

The phygital basketball discipline, known as \u201cPhygital Basketball. 3on3 FreeStyle,\u201d pits two\u2011player clubs against each other in two weighted stages: a digital round played on the latest licensed version of \u201c3on3 FreeStyle: Rebound\u201d and a physical 2\u2011on\u20112 match on a standard 3\u2011x\u20113 court. Scores from the digital stage carry over to the physical stage, with the combined total deciding the winner; the overall prize pool for the discipline is $400\u202f000.<\/p>\n

The format demands both sharp esports strategy and athletic skill, making it a true test of a new breed of hybrid athletes.<\/p>\n

GESF President Mr. Igor\u202fBoumekpo stressed the historic nature of Ghana\u2019s participation, noting that the country is one of only two African nations competing in phygital basketball this year.<\/p>\n

Their preparation has been backed by the Ministry of Sports and recreation, National Sports Authority which has provided funding and diplomatic assistance to ensure the contingent arrives well\u2011equipped and ready to compete.<\/p>\n

The Ghana Esports federation\u2019s partnership with the World Phygital Community further strengthens Ghana\u2019s foothold in this emerging sporting arena.<\/p>\n

With over Sixteen (16) teams participating, Ghana has been scheduled to take on USA in their opening encounter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
