The chiefs of the Kpandai district in the Oti region have rejected the Tamale High Court order for a rerun of the parliamentary election, citing concerns over the court\u2019s decision and its potential impact on community harmony. <\/p>\n

Nana Nkpajator Nkpawiase II, the Chief of Blajai, on behalf of the others, called on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene in the matter.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The court nullified the results of the election, which saw Matthew Nyindam, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, winning with 27,947 votes, and directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a fresh poll within 30 days.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, the chiefs argued that the election was conducted smoothly and that Mr Nyindam was duly elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) to represent the people of Kpandai.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The chiefs affirmed their recognition of the 2024 election that brought President Mahama into power and elected Mr Nyindam as their MP.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the chiefs warned that a rerun could lead to violence and destabilise the community, which had enjoyed over 33 years of relative peace.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nana Nkpawiase and the other chiefs urged the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Daniel Nsala Wakpal, to exercise patience and focus on 2028 if he truly had the interest of the district at heart.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The chiefs said the community needed peace and stability, and they would not tolerate actions that could jeopardise this.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
