The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has rallied first-time Members of Parliament (MPs) to embrace a culture of transparency, accountability, and cooperation in the nation\u2019s legislative body.<\/p>\n

Speaking at an informal engagement session with new MPs, the Speaker emphasised that partisanship should not be a threat to democracy, but rather a means to strengthen it.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cGhana has consciously chosen a multiparty system, and differing viewpoints are essential to its strength.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Bagbin urged MPs to specialise in legislative areas, including Committee work, to deliver meaningful representation to their constituents.<\/p>\n

He also stressed that Committee business was the engine of Parliament, and that diligent research, preparation, and participation were crucial to effective lawmaking.<\/p>\n

Mr Bagbin also clarified misconceptions surrounding parliamentary privileges and immunities, saying, \u201cThey are not personal favors but safeguards for the people\u2019s voice.\u201d<\/p>\n

He expressed concern over neglected constitutional provisions regarding local assembly members\u2019 welfare and pledged to revitalize structures that strengthened decentralization.<\/p>\n

The Speaker\u2019s vision for a people-centered Parliament includes televised sessions with senior MPs, the media, and the public, promoting transparency and accountability.<\/p>\n

Mr Bagbin also responded to criticisms about his attire, saying Ghana\u2019s parliamentary dress reflects cultural pride and tradition.<\/p>\n

He commended MPs for their contributions and assured them of his support as they grow in leadership, ethics, and legislative excellence.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
