Ghana has announced a comprehensive US$3.4 billion clean energy investment programme aimed at reshaping the country\u2019s power sector and boosting its contribution to Africa\u2019s renewable energy drive.<\/p>\n

The five-year plan, launched at the 3rd Renewable Energy Forum Africa (REFA 2025) in Accra, outlines sweeping targets intended to scale up green energy production and strengthen private-sector participation in the sector.<\/p>\n

Minister for Energy and Green Transition John Abdulai Jinapor, who unveiled the initiative, said the government is committed to building a resilient and future-ready energy system.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have taken bold, decisive steps to grow our renewable energy sector in ways that will support long-term economic transformation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Under the plan, Ghana aims to add 1,400MW of renewable power, install 400 mini-grids nationwide, roll out over 100 fast-charging stations to support electric mobility, and expand the use of solar-powered water pumping infrastructure to enhance agriculture.<\/p>\n

Mr Jinapor noted that progress is already evident, citing Ghana\u2019s status as host of Africa\u2019s largest single rooftop solar project\u2014a 16.8MW installation\u2014and President John Dramani Mahama\u2019s recent commissioning of a 200MW solar facility with an expected expansion to 1,000MW by 2032.<\/p>\n

The Minister also addressed the broader African context, stressing that the continent\u2019s abundant renewable resources should translate into improved energy access.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is unacceptable that a continent endowed with immense solar potential continues to battle energy poverty,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith collective action, harnessing even 20% of our renewable resources can eliminate energy poverty and drive sustainable development.\u201d<\/p>\n

He emphasised that partnerships among governments, investors, and development institutions remain essential to making this vision a reality.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
