Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has renewed his criticisms of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), accusing the institution of adopting what he describes as a \u201cvigilante mentality\u201d in its dealings with individuals under investigation.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Joy FM\u2019s Super Morning Show on Thursday, December 4, a day after his arrest and release, Mr Kpebu said his experience at the OSP headquarters reinforced his longstanding concerns about the office\u2019s operational methods.<\/p>\n

According to him, the handling of his arrest was unnecessary and formed part of what he believes is a broader pattern of intimidation designed to instil fear in suspects and critics of the office.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I saw clearly shows that the OSP is now working with a vigilante mentality. The aim is to frighten people who appear before them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Kpebu insisted he had complied with all procedures when he arrived at the OSP headquarters to assist with investigations, arguing there was no justification for his arrest.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey had absolutely no basis to arrest me. It was pure overreach. They just want to show power and create fear,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He further claimed that under the leadership of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, the office has lost its professional grounding and now operates in a manner that undermines due process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis kind of conduct destroys public confidence. An institution meant to fight corruption cannot behave like a vigilante group,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

These fresh comments follow his earlier assertion that the arrest amounted to a \u201csuicide mission\u201d for the OSP, insisting the office acted recklessly in detaining him.<\/p>\n

The OSP, however, maintains that the arrest was lawful and stemmed from Mr Kpebu\u2019s alleged obstruction of security officers in the performance of their duties.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
