President John Dramani Mahama has described the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings as a \u201cpioneering leader\u201d whose influence and courage transformed Ghana\u2019s political and social space, especially the role of First Lady.<\/p>\n

Delivering a tribute read on his behalf at Konadu\u2019s State funeral, President Mahama said the nation was mourning \u201ca truly remarkable woman\u201d whose legacy would endure for generations.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was a towering national figure whose influence, courage, and contributions to Ghana will continue to resonate for generations.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that Nana Konadu was far more than a former First Lady. \u201cShe was a pioneering leader, an unwavering champion of women\u2019s empowerment, a trailblazer in our political landscape, and a deeply committed patriot,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Mahama explained that her life was marked by boldness and conviction. \u201cHer life story is one defined by boldness, boldness to speak, to challenge, to lead, and to stand resolutely for what she believed was right for Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n

He noted that Nana Konadu completely reshaped expectations of the First Lady\u2019s office. \u201cAs First Lady, she redefined the role and transformed it into a platform for national development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Central to that transformation was her leadership of the 31st December Women\u2019s Movement. President Mahama recounted how she \u201cexpanded opportunities for women and girls, especially in rural communities where support was most needed,\u201d championing literacy, maternal health, early childhood education, and economic empowerment long before these issues gained national prominence. <\/p>\n

\u201cHer work touched thousands of families and laid the groundwork for many of the gender-sensitive policies and social interventions that Ghana benefits from today,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Beyond politics, he said Nana Konadu was assertive, principled and unyielding, yet warm, humorous and deeply devoted to her family. \u201cBehind a determined public image was a warm, engaging, humorous woman\u2026 a mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and mentor,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Even in difficult public moments, she carried herself with dignity. \u201cShe lived a life of service, courage, and deep conviction\u2026 always guided by her commitment to Ghana\u2019s unity, progress, and stability,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Mr Mahama recalled her strong belief in the potential of women and young people. \u201cShe believed passionately in the transformative power of women and the potential of young people, and she dedicated her voice and influence to help uplift them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He described her passing as a profound loss to both family and nation. \u201cIt marks the closing of an important chapter in Ghana\u2019s political and social history, even as her example continues to inspire generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we bid farewell to Nana Konadu, we celebrate a life richly lived, a life of leadership, advocacy, service, and unbroken purpose\u2026 May her beautiful soul rest in perfect peace, and may her legacy continue to guide us toward a more just, inclusive, and equitable Ghana.
