People could therefore be returned to their home country when it is deemed \u201csafe\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Human Rights Law will be reconsidered<\/strong>, including narrowing how the right to family life under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) is applied in migration court cases<\/li>\n<li><strong>Guaranteed housing and weekly pay will end<\/strong>\u00a0for some asylum seekers \u2013 including those who have permission to work, who have committed a crime or have defied removal directions; support will still be available for \u201cthose who are destitute\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>New safe and legal routes to the UK<\/strong>\u00a0will be established along with an annual cap on arrivals via these routes<\/li>\n<li><strong>New technologies will strengthen enforcement<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 including\u00a0trials of AI-driven technology\u00a0to verify the age of asylum seekers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Presenting plans to the House of Commons this evening, Mahmood received some push back from other parties.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch\u00a0praised the focus on the issue, but said the government\u2019s measures don\u2019t go far enough, while\u00a0Liberal Democrat spokesperson Max Wilkinson\u00a0criticised the rhetoric used, which described the country as \u201cbeing torn apart\u201d by immigration.
