The Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for what he describes as a misplaced defence priority in the 2026 Budget.<\/p>\n

In a statement posted on Thursday, November 13 \u2014 the same day Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson presented the budget \u2014 the Member of Parliament for Assin South said the government had \u201cswerved\u201d the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) by abandoning expectations for fighter jets.<\/p>\n

According to Rev. Ntim Fordjour, the NDC, while in opposition, rejected President Akufo-Addo\u2019s proposal to procure aircraft, two offshore patrol vessels and six fighter jets for the GAF.<\/p>\n

He said it was therefore surprising that the new budget now seeks to acquire two \u201cluxury jets\u201d, four helicopters and two offshore patrol vessels.<\/p>\n

He noted that the nation\u2019s \u201cgallant soldiers\u201d would have expected the government to prioritise the acquisition of fighter jets and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to enhance the operational strength of the Ghana Armed Forces.<\/p>\n

Instead, he argued, the government had \u201cchosen to prioritise their travel luxury\u201d over the real needs of the military.<\/p>\n

Rev. Ntim Fordjour further stated that Ghanaians \u2014 and former President Akufo-Addo in particular \u2014 deserved an \u201cunqualified apology\u201d from the NDC.<\/p>\n

He accused the government of exhibiting \u201cpalpable hypocrisy and bad faith\u201d in the management of national defence and security matters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
