The Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Makafui Woanyah, has urged members of the party to be guided by history and retain former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party\u2019s flagbearer for the 2028 elections.<\/p>\n

Making a strong case for Dr. Bawumia\u2019s retention, the regional chairman told party members in Hohoe \u2014 during the Vice President\u2019s campaign tour of the region \u2014 that history has proven that consistency in maintaining candidates ultimately leads to victory. He cited the experiences of Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to illustrate his point.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the political market, there are rules. And the rule, as evident in Ghana, is that consistency is the key. We\u2019ve seen it with the NDC, and we\u2019ve seen it with the NPP \u2014 when you take a product to the market and it is not bought, repeat that product, and it will eventually be bought,\u201d Chairman Woanyah said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He continued, \u201cThe precedent is clear. President Kufuor went twice before we got it. President Akufo-Addo went three times before we got it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Volta Regional Chairman also pointed to the examples of former Presidents John Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama, who both made multiple attempts at the presidency before eventually winning after being repeatedly endorsed by the NDC.<\/p>\n

\u201cMahama went three times and got it. The first was because President Mills passed away, and with the mourning and sympathies, he won in 2012. But when he came back in 2016, he lost. They repeated him in 2020 \u2014 he lost again \u2014 and then he came back in 2024,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n
