Accra, June 09, GNA \u2013 President John Dramani Mahama has secured a supply agreement for 1,840 pieces of agricultural equipment from Belarus as part of efforts to boost agricultural production in Ghana.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The President announced this in his address at the maiden Ghana\u2013Belarus Business Forum in Minsk, Belarus.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said that for businesses seeking the next frontier of growth in Africa, Ghana offered the most compelling proposition, adding that agriculture\u00a0represents\u00a0perhaps, the greatest immediate opportunity for collaboration between the two countries.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He noted that Belarus had earned a global reputation for excellence in the production of agricultural machinery and equipment,\u00a0fertiliser\u00a0production, and agro-industrial systems.\u00a0<\/p>\n

President Mahama said Ghana was currently undertaking one of the most ambitious agricultural\u00a0modernisation\u00a0programmes\u00a0in its history.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He explained that through the Government\u2019s Feed Ghana\u00a0Programme, investments are being made in\u00a0mechanisation, irrigation, improved seeds, livestock development, and\u00a0agro-processing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added that the Government is\u00a0establishing\u00a0Farmer Service\u00a0Centres\u00a0across the country to provide machinery, technical support, and modern farming services to Ghana\u2019s farmers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIndeed, the ongoing procurement of agricultural machinery from Belarus for these\u00a0centres\u00a0is a practical example of how our partnership is already yielding tangible results,\u201d he\u00a0stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAs I speak today, Ghana has placed an order for 1,840 pieces of agricultural equipment from Belarus. But this is only the beginning.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

President Mahama said the Government is inviting Belarusian investors to\u00a0participate\u00a0in commercial farming, irrigation development, greenhouse production,\u00a0fertiliser\u00a0manufacturing, poultry production, aquaculture, food processing, and agricultural\u00a0logistics.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He noted that Ghana\u2019s fertile land,\u00a0favourable\u00a0climate, and expanding market make it one of Africa\u2019s most attractive agribusiness destinations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He further said healthcare is another area with enormous potential, adding that his government is expanding access to quality healthcare while investing in\u00a0specialised\u00a0facilities for cancer treatment, vaccine production, and medical research.\u00a0<\/p>\n

President Mahama said there are significant opportunities for collaboration in pharmaceuticals, medical equipment manufacturing, diagnostics, telemedicine, and healthcare technologies, adding that Belarusian\u00a0expertise\u00a0could play\u00a0an important role\u00a0in supporting Ghana\u2019s healthcare transformation agenda.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cThe future, it is said, belongs to nations that embrace technology and innovation.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cAnd so Ghana is positioning itself to become a leading digital economy in Africa. We have launched our national artificial intelligence strategy titled \u2018AI for Good\u2019.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said the Government is implementing training for one million young people in coding and continues to expand Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, digital skills training, and innovation ecosystems.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He noted that a major technology and AI hub is currently under development in Ghana, creating opportunities in data\u00a0centres, cybersecurity, fintech,\u00a0agritech, health tech, and business process outsourcing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe welcome the Belarusian partnership in software development, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, technology transfer and innovation,\u201d he\u00a0stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added that beyond agriculture and technology, Ghana presents significant opportunities in industrial manufacturing and value addition.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOur approach is clear. We\u00a0seek\u00a0to move beyond exporting raw materials. We\u00a0seek\u00a0to process, manufacture, and create value within Ghana.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

President Mahama said opportunities also exist in mining services, mineral processing, industrial equipment, manufacturing, textiles, housing, construction materials, and renewable energy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
