A 29-year-old electronic collector has been\u00a0arraigned\u00a0before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing GH\u00a2490,400 belonging to GCB Bank.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Samuel Owusu, a contract staff of the bank, has been charged with stealing and has pleaded not guilty.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The prosecution, led by Inspector Priscilla\u00a0Avorgah, told the court that the complainant is the Manager of Security and Fraud Investigation at GCB Bank Plc, while\u00a0Owusu was\u00a0stationed at the bank\u2019s\u00a0Abossey\u00a0Okai branch in Accra.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Inspector\u00a0Avorgah\u00a0said\u00a0Owusu,\u00a0was responsible for\u00a0collecting money from customers and depositing it into their respective accounts using a dedicated phone assigned to him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She said a preliminary audit conducted on October 29, 2025, revealed that GH\u00a2490,400 had been stolen from several customer accounts.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The court heard that Owusu was confronted by the complainant, the bank manager, and his supervisor, during which he\u00a0admitted\u00a0stealing the money between February and October 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to the prosecution, Owusu claimed he invested the stolen funds in an online trading platform known as \u201cqadatralife.com\u201d in hopes of making a profit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He was\u00a0subsequently\u00a0arrested and taken to the police station to\u00a0assist\u00a0with investigations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In his caution statement, Owusu stated that he did not steal the entire amount at once but appropriated the funds gradually by\u00a0failing to deposit\u00a0monies collected from customers into their accounts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
