A man, identified as Kofi\u00a0Agbavitor,\u00a0was placed\u00a0in police custody after he allegedly stabbed and killed 32-year-old Julius\u00a0Sablah, popularly known as D-Black, at Ehi-Zongo on Monday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The incident, which\u00a0reportedly occurred\u00a0at about 20:30 hours, saw the suspect allegedly using a jackknife to stab the victim in the neck, leaving him in a pool of blood.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

When the\u00a0Police arrived at the scene, they\u00a0found the deceased lying motionless with a deep wound on the left side of his neck.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The body was examined and later conveyed to the St. Anthony Hospital morgue in\u00a0Dzodze\u00a0for preservation and autopsy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police sources\u00a0said\u00a0the suspect later turned up at the Ehi Police Station armed with a cutlass, claiming he was seeking refuge from a\u00a0mob, and he\u00a0was arrested and placed in custody to\u00a0assist\u00a0investigations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, tensions escalated when irate youth stormed the\u00a0police\u00a0station, demanding the suspect\u2019s release, but upon the refusal by the\u00a0police, the mob resorted to violence, pelting stones at the building and damaging its roof.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The District Commander, Chief Superintendent William Gyamfi, and the District Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel\u00a0Habada, swiftly\u00a0mobilised\u00a0a patrol team to restore order.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

However,\u00a0upon\u00a0their\u00a0arrival,\u00a0attempts\u00a0to calm the crowd\u00a0had\u00a0failed, and the\u00a0youth\u00a0had\u00a0intensified their aggression, injuring Inspector Augustine Tawiah and G\/Constable Foster Adu with stones.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both\u00a0officers\u00a0were later rushed to the Sab-Dave Hospital in\u00a0Dzodze\u00a0for treatment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Amid the unrest, a stray bullet allegedly\u00a0strucked\u00a0an unidentified woman, but efforts by police to\u00a0assist\u00a0her were obstructed by the mob\u00a0and the group also blocked the Ehi\u2013Penyi\u00a0main road to prevent further police reinforcements.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The situation deteriorated further when the mob set the Ehi Police Station ablaze using petrol, forcing officers and the suspect to flee for their lives.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Reinforcements from the Divisional Command arrived, but persistent attacks forced a tactical retreat, leaving the police facility consumed by\u00a0the\u00a0fire.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police confirm that the suspect, Kofi\u00a0Agbavitor,\u00a0was currently receiving medical care under guard at the St. Anthony Hospital\u00a0at\u00a0Dzodze, as investigations continued\u00a0into both the alleged murder and the\u00a0subsequent\u00a0violent disturbances.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in a press release signed by\u00a0Rev. Martin\u00a0Amenaki,\u00a0the Municipal Chief Executive and\u00a0Chairman\u00a0of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC),\u00a0expressed deep regret\u00a0at\u00a0the tragic events and strongly condemned the acts of violence and destruction that unfolded.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He stressed that mob justice\u00a0was unlawful and undermined\u00a0the rule of law that the nation strived\u00a0to uphold.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rev.\u00a0Amenaki\u00a0said\u00a0MUSEC, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies, had\u00a0instituted swift measures to restore calm and safeguard residents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He appealed to Traditional Authorities, Opinion Leaders, and the youth of Ehi and its surrounding communities to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rev.\u00a0Amenaki\u00a0assured the public that the Ketu North Municipal Assembly remained\u00a0committed to\u00a0maintaining\u00a0peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring justice for all.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
